Re: Heading sensor on alloy boat
Do you have electric wiring near the sensor? This can cause magnetic interference. One reason why the compass light wires should always be twisted to negate any interference which will affect the compass heading. If there are hot wires in the vicinity a quick test is to turn off the power if this is...

Re: Venting Battery Locker
I would suggest some ventilation holes lower down with a number in the lid so you get a through flow of air. If you are in an area that gets very hot you may need some small 12V computer fans to extract the hot air. A few years ago I wired up a boat with 112 circuits. House battery (250AH), 12V free...

3/16" plate........................ just a deep scratch.
A good alloy welder should fix that while you wait. You do not show show any inside pics but I cannot imagine any damage to stringers or framing.

Re: My third AA boat
Nice boat. Down my way we do a lot of two night trips out to the reef so I have 2x7' bunks. But no table, seats or head. Coolers are tables & cheap butane stoves allow fillets to be converted into meals.
I could learn to appreciate that layout really quickly.

Re: Coming to Brisbane
Mark & Carol arrived OK & decided that they did not need a sleep so we had a full day touring around. But they crashed out big time last night. Carol wanted to get up to see the 0530 sunrise but that did not happen.
More to come.

Re: Found this in yachtworld
Down this way custom alloy boats have always been in high demand. Our company supplies heatshrink terminals to most of the main builders in Brisbane & surrounds. These builders have 12-18 months of paid up orders on their books plus people actually offering $$$ to jump the queue. There are 20 ye...

Re: Stray current/grounding question
Sounds logical. I also have a Blue Seas switch panel & my leds do sometimes fade after powering off. I had never considered any power drain coming from my ICOM.

Re: Stray current/grounding question
Is your AC power from an on board hard wired genny, a portable genny or do you just hook up to AC from marina shore power? You also mentioned capacitors. You do not usually find them on a standard 12V DC wiring circuit. How big is this boat? Could you please post some pics of your batteries plus swi...

Re: Stray current/grounding question
"There is (as there should be) one single ground point on the hull where the main DC bus bar is tied to (marked with green tape on heavy guage yellow). I believe that this is all correct and ABYC." If I am reading this correctly (and that may not be the case) are you saying that that your ...

Right hand control trucks
Morning all. Some years ago Ford used to export right hand control F250 & F350 trucks to Australia. These were right hand straight from the assembly line. There are a number of places in the US that will convert a LHD truck to RHD & meet Australian standards but I have heard a rumour that Do...

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m31/peterbo3/DSCN2777Small.jpg This is one way to do it. Centreline mounted through hull 600W ducer on a tab at base of transom with a 1KW TM260 mounted on a slide. You could tab mount a 12 or 20 degree offset ducer on your bottom/transom junction plate where ever...

Re: What Have I Got Myself Into? Any Advice Is Welcome
It is probably nowhere near as bad as it looks. Seeing that it had an Inboard with a leg at some stage, there is a good chance that the stringers & transverse frames will be beefed up. The corrosion/gunk appears to superficial. As the earlier replies suggest get the hull stripped out totally &am...
