Re: Venting Battery Locker

Kevin,
There will be a battery management panel, charging relays and cables inside the cabinet. I could possibly isolate that area from the rest of the cabinet but it would take some work to make it "air tight".

Venting Battery Locker

I need to properly vent my battery locker which is located at the stern of the boat above the deck. The battery selector switch panel is also in that locker and there will be other electronics installed there as well. There will be two starting batteries and one house battery inside the locker. Woul...

Re: Bilge Ventilation For Outboard Boats

Kevin, thanks for the reply, sorry it took so long to get back to you. My question was answered perfectly and I will do the venting of the bilge area of my boat as you have suggested. I will post some pictures of the boat when the painting is done in spring. Thanks again,

Bilge Ventilation For Outboard Boats

I'm curious to know if anyone has installed bilge ventilation (either natural or powered) for an under the deck gas tank of an outboard powered boat. If you have how was it done?

Attaching Cushions To Aluminum Seats

I've fabricated the interior seating for my boat out of aluminum that was left over from the water jet cutting process. The seats will have storage under them with pullout drawers. I'm wondering what would be the best way to attach the seat cushions to the seat backs and bottoms. The seat backs and ...

Has Anyone Installed A Macerator Pump In A Bilge

Hi, I'm interested in finding out if anyone has installed a macerator pump in the bilge of their boat. I have a fish box which is under the deck that I want to pump out as needed. The ideal place functionally would be close to the outlet of the box which is lower in the bilge. Can the pump be instal...

Installing Macerator Pump In Bilge

Hi all, I have a fish box located in the floor of my aluminum boat. The box is 3' x 4' x 18" deep. Ideally, I want to install the macerator pump for the fish box in the bilge, the shortest distance from the outlet of the box. Can a macerator pump be occasionally submerged with water and still functi...

Re: Blasting VS Sanding For New Paint

Chaps, thank you very much for that information. I was really struggling on deciding on a paint system for the interior. I have one more question about the sanding, If it takes more than one day to sand the interior of the boat could I still apply the etch primer or would I have to resand surfaces t...

Re: Blasting VS Sanding For New Paint

Dear Kevin & Chaps, Thanks for the replies. Painting inside the cabin would be above the sole and the bilge would be completely sealed off from blasting material. I don't necessarily want to paint the hull sides, stringers and ceiling framing but my research indicates it should be painted prior to i...

Blasting VS Sanding For New Paint

Hi everyone, I've extensively researched painting an aluminum boat in these forums and in other boat sites on the internet. There is a lot of information out there and more than one way to get satisfactory results. This boat is a home-build which for me limits some of the options for good paint prep...

Hi All, I'm trying to wrap my head around the correct sequence of paint and techniques for applying Zolatone 20 the interior of my boat. I'm going to use Zolatone 20 on the inside of the cabin, the bridge and the inside of the back deck walls. The rest of the exterior of the boat i...

Re: Runoff From Acid Wash Rinse Water

Thanks for the reply Kevin. So, if I understand your response correctly, the acid used for etching will be diluted so extensively with the rinse water that it will not be a problem. And with the Allodyne, if you are using it correctly, very little of the chromium will be released into the rinse wate...

I'm interested in preparing the interior of my alloy boat for painting by using the acid wash, Allodyne, primer, paint method. I've read the methods used by Kevin and others on the forum. My question is about the rinse water runoff used for the acid wash-Allodyne portion of the preparation. This is ...

Kevin, thanks for the reply and information, much appreciated. I have a few more questions. What would you use for insulation inside an alloy boat cabin? I'm struggling to come up with best solution. I'm thinking about Armaflex SA or possibly sprayed in foam. Also, what do you like to use for cabin ...

Shutoff Valves For Aluminum Gas Tanks

Does anyone know if shutoff valves are required on an aluminum fuel tank at the suction point for the fuel lines? I don't have much room between the top of the tank and the deck. The tank will be used with outboards and the hose will always be higher than the top of the tank.

HI,
I'm checking to be sure it is ok to use brass fuel line fittings installed into stainless steel bushings in an aluminum fuel tank. The price of stainless steel right angle fuel line fittings is beyond comprehension.

What Are You Using For Cabin Wall Surfaces

I'm in the process of planning the framing for walls inside the cabin of my alloy boat. What have you been using for the wall covering? I'm leaning toward using King Starboard XL in 1/4" thickness. Would probably use the same material for the ceiling as well. I've read that some people are using FRP...
