DC Wiring Connection Issue With Large Conductors
I have an interesting issue connecting a Smart Toilet Control to my boat's electrical system. Basically, power cables from the service panel breaker power a printed circuit board which then powers the components of the toilet controlled by an electric switch panel. The components of the system are c...

Re: Removing Weld Induced Warping In Aluminum Panels
Kevin thanks for the response. I understand what you are suggesting I try to achieve, a very minimal amount of welding on the side, once the panel is supported with reinforcements inside.

Re: Removing Weld Induced Warping In Aluminum Panels
Gentlemen, I've attached a picture of the problem area to this post. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. The warping is most visible in the area of the light bracket. There is some bracing under the sheeting but it is minimal.

Removing Weld Induced Warping In Aluminum Panels
Anyone have a good method of removing heat induced warping of aluminum panels from welding? I realize the best solution is to prevent it from the beginning with back stepping, braces, small size welds etc. I'm already past that point. The 1/8" aluminum flybridge on my boat has some distortion o...

Interior Paint For Alloy Boats
What paint scheme are people using to paint the interior of their boats? I was thinking about Zolatone paint but I can't find anyone on the forum who has used the paint or wants to write about it. I specifically want to know what kind and brand of primer people are using on the interior of their boa...

Primer For Zolatone
I'm wondering what builders are using for primer under a Zolatone finish on an aluminum alloy boat. I'm going to blast the interior with glass then apply the primer. Ideally, I'd like a primer that I would not have to top coat immediately (within an hour).

Through Hull Transducer Mounting For Aluminum Alloy Boats
I'm trying to decide what is the best way to install a through hull, flush mount transducer for my boat. It has 1/4" bottom plates and is very sturdy. I'm a little reluctant to drill over a 3" diameter hole in the hull for the transducer. I was wondering if anyone that has installed one st...

Re: Corrosion Protection For Aluminum Hull Boats
These are all somewhat good ideas if not a little over the top in some cases, particularly since you don't have intention to leave the boat in the water. For instance your shore power isolation transformer would come in handy if you were planning on long term mooring in a decrepit marina full of po...

Corrosion Protection For Aluminum Hull Boats
It's very fortunate that there are a wealth of contributors on this forum who have solutions for the questions I have posed. I'm in the process of designing the corrosion protection system for my 31' aluminum boat. The hull is made of 5086-H116 1/4" aluminum and the boat will be used exclusivel...

Re: Black Water Tank Sending Units
Bob, It looks like the float type with the stilling wells installed over the float- to allow liquids only into the well solves the black water challenges of mixed solids in the measured column? So that looks like a simple and easy to install solution? But, on a related topic as a note about sensor ...

Re: Black Water Tank Sending Units
The sending units come with there fancy mounting ring. We weld a 1 1/2 NPT fitting in the tank and screw in. Generally they recommend a length about 3/4 of the depth of the tank. The sender with out the protective cover is a fuel sending unit, but the float is the same as the blackwater one. The ga...

Re: Black Water Tank Sending Units
I did find some electronic capacitance units made by Gill which might work but the WEMA units seem to be used by lots of people. Kevin, thanks for the response, I will look into these as well.

Re: Black Water Tank Sending Units
Thank you to everyone for the replies. My Icon Touch 7.0 displays have analog inputs for the sending units. This rules out the ultrasonic units unless I want to buy a separate display for the sending units. I've researched the WEMA units and was curious to see if anyone had used the SHS holding tank...

Black Water Tank Sending Units
Hi All,
What are people using for black water tank sending units? My digital displays only accept analog inputs for tank sending units. I'm looking for good quality sending units that won't malfunction in a black water tank.

Re: Venting Battery Locker
Kevin,
There will be a battery management panel, charging relays and cables inside the cabinet. I could possibly isolate that area from the rest of the cabinet but it would take some work to make it "air tight".

Kevin, thanks for the reply, sorry it took so long to get back to you. My question was answered perfectly and I will do the venting of the bilge area of my boat as you have suggested. I will post some pictures of the boat when the painting is done in spring. Thanks again,

Attaching Cushions To Aluminum Seats
I've fabricated the interior seating for my boat out of aluminum that was left over from the water jet cutting process. The seats will have storage under them with pullout drawers. I'm wondering what would be the best way to attach the seat cushions to the seat backs and bottoms. The seat backs and ...

Has Anyone Installed A Macerator Pump In A Bilge
Hi, I'm interested in finding out if anyone has installed a macerator pump in the bilge of their boat. I have a fish box which is under the deck that I want to pump out as needed. The ideal place functionally would be close to the outlet of the box which is lower in the bilge. Can the pump be instal...
