Re: Pipe Design job
Tom, how are things in the land of "oranges & almonds" ? I'd think you were looking to immigrate to some more work oriented piece of geography with all the crazy things in the news there? Cheers, Kevin Hello Kevin surviving , I still have a few good customers that keep me going so it ...

Re: Spare Tire Mounting Bracket
The best setup I had when I trailering a long distance was I welded a spindle off the side of winch-Vblock post, it kept the setup out of the water when launching and I had complete spare hub and bearings ready to go

Thank you, Yeah this is not mine. The keel is the part I need to find how it works and I wanted to know if this was standard. I found out its not, problem is getting a extruded keel and chines. The Keel bar like that would be cut from plate, I would think you would need a strong back to firmly hold...

Re: Welding machine help?
Yep it would be nice if lincoln would give some basic welding charts with there AP welders. I run the invertec 350 AP model and it took a bit to figure it out. I found for a quick way to get it running right in pulse or pulse on pulse mode is just set it at 300 or 400 output at machine and the set t...

Re: Pipe bender
Hello Kevin I am wondering if wrapping the pipe in news paper basically does the same as sanding and lubing ? The bender I have is like the orange one from HF in a previous post, there not bad for the money but the dies are on the cheap side "spread out after being used a bit " that's wher...

Re: Pipe bender
Sweet looking. Try that with 6063 Aluminum. With the 6061 you did not crack it? I have so I use the 6063. Thanks The 6063 was not readily available, would have had to special order so I tried the 6061. worked better than I thought it would. I did a couple test bends first, one I heated and let cool...

Re: Pipe bender
Doing a sweep bend like that without a roll bender is a bit tricky and time consuming. What I usually do is put a mark every 6" and run it through the bender doing ever so slight bends at each mark then back through between marks and if more is needed back through again between bends. Rather th...

Re: Might have to build barges.
I'm a self employed welder myself " not on boats" and I would not touch this job unless it was engineered. If the customer gives you drawings and spec's everything that would be one thing but just giving the size he wants and the rest is up to you means you are 100% liable should anything ...

Without seeing it
I would think starting at the bow and working toward the back would give you more leverage with the long piece to twist and curve it, clamping it in position as you go, have to watch that you don't dent or crease the side panels, wedging 2x4's across on the inside if needed

Bob
I think what I would do there is use 1/2" or 3/4" solid round aluminum bend it to the shape you want then cut holes to match slip it in half way and weld it up unless your running chain through then I would do it out of stainless with flange that bolts in

Well Jetty
I would say they use boats like in the picture because they are cheap and simple and you don't need to blast through shallows just trim up and run slow or drift and scull but I sail so might not mean much.

Re: Pacific 1925 shaft length issue
I found some Jack plate’s with 6" setback from http://www.hydrodynamics-usa.com/rapid-jack.html . These are adjustable and will get the motors back and down and hopefully make a difference. I took some measurements and came up with 26" from top of transom to keel, the motors are 25" ...

Re: meat eater
Yes I probably do have a tendency to over oil air tools, I also give them a good dose of oil when I am finished with them, I have had them freeze up when not used for a while, mostly that came from moisture from compressor Kevin recommended using an arbortech for back gouging with the 2 blade cutter...

Re: Mig welder woes
Gentlemen A question to the welders and boat builders on the forum. I have a CIG brand 275amp mIg 3phase, that i use with a spool gun for my aluminium welding. Lately I have had all sorts of wire speed feed dramas. I cannot get enough wire speed and at times fluctuates. I have checked the circuit b...

Re: Contaminated Welds
Hello NTGeorge New poster here. I am no expert at aluminum but when I back chip I run dry for fear of contamination, when I was working with thin gage I was using aluminum grinding wheels and wire brushing after with no issues. Now I am building frames form 1/4" material and using an arbor-tech...
