I figured with my boat, I'll be very selective on the days I go out and if the condtions even remotely look to change when I'm out, I'm getting the heck outta dodge. There's always another day. Ken that's what I call being a good skipper. I can't believe no one else has commented on this, especiall...

Ken I apologise, did not mean to offend. I should have realised that not all waters behave and are the same, I was thinking more for my part of the world, South East coast of Australia. I would consider fishing the shelf as being out which is approx 20Nm. The other thing is glass-outs are a very ra...

Lets be reasonable you wouldn't be going to far in a 15' tinny. I'm curious, how far do you think far is? Or how far to far is for a 15 (0r 16' like mine)'? I've seen guys out a long way in zodiacs up here in Alaska (70 miles). I've shook my head thinking I'd never do that, forgetting that I have. ...

Jets pick up EVERYTHING , mud, grass, oyster shells, rocks, sand , well you get the idea and it shells the pump in a heart beat. When I lived out west the jet boat guys said the pumps will suck crud up , up to 8' deep. I believe the guys up in the PNW are running in rivers that have rock bottoms an...

I think this sums it up for a LOT of our troops "over there." My friends go to college, I go to war. At the same hour they wake up to decide not to go to school or work that day, I've been at work for hours. Their alarms wake them up, my alarms send me to cover. They make plans based on h...

Hey, how's about some details on the boat? Weight, beam etc......
I was thinking along the lines of a Big Foot, Honda BFP Power Thrust etc..... before I was recommended the Yamaha 70 in my repowering recommendation thread.
So for comparison, how's about some details???????

Re: Gun parts
Years ago, I bought a lower from Essential Arms in Louisiana thru an FFL dealer. They are usually priced very competitively. It's as good a lower as any other manufacturer in my opinion (I own a few different lowers from other manufacturers) and I made a CAR-15 with a Quality Parts Company kit and h...

As next season approaches, send me a reminder and I would be happy to give you some pointers on shrimping the Sound. Well, thank you. Out of PWS, I've only set pots in Pigot Bay with cat food. Last year we did pretty good, this year, not so good. I've also set pots in Jack Bay out of Valdez. Did pr...

I scored a shrimp pot and some buoys off craigslist yesterday. Sweet.
At this rate, I'll be set up nicely before next year's boating season.

Re: AK Help Please
Something different. Fly in to Anchorage. Rent car, drive to Homer / take in the sights along the way, turn car in at Homer (think there's a Hertz there but I'd confirm that) take the ferry from Homer to Kodiak. Return trip, fly Kodiak to Anchorage, then L48. Or do a reverse of the trip.

Re: "Mucking through the minefield of electronics"
Now that I've stated publicly my feelings towards Lowrance based upon my handheld GPS experience, I've stumbled across the Elite 5 combo. Interesting. From the reviews I've read, seems the only complaints I've seen so far is the owners manual is lacking on the Elite 5. Kinda remember that being a co...

"Mucking through the minefield of electronics"
Been looking long and hard at chartplotter combos. God what a headache from all the choices. I haven't looked much at Lowrance, even though it seems there's quite a following here for them. In my defense, I still remember my first handheld GPS, a Lowrance Globalnav 212. It was a brick and so not use...
