Re: Fixing severe pitting and holes on alu boat

You cant weld Corroded Aluminum. You need to Clean it with a Burr Bit mad to cut Aluminum. Amazon has them. EVERY SPOT OF BROWN HAS TO BE REMOVED. Then Acid wash it. Then Depending on Construction; Plate or Thin Riveted metal. There are WAYS to repair. Chaps Said Light Sandblast but that will put sa...

Re: welding aluminum

I disconnect the Batteries Most Times. I remove the grounds. If you can put the ground clamp as close to the area to be welded you have less chance of frying the electronics. I have done that on my boat before and had no issues BUT I don't do that all of the time. I ensure that anyone elses boat in ...

Re: North River Seahawk Drain Holes?

Kevin I was sure you had said that. I just did a search but could not find any reference of that. You have always advocated either baking soda or ammonia to neutralize acid. My take on the subject is soap is a mild base that will clean and neutralize mild acidic water in the bilge. If used on a regu...

Re: North River Seahawk Drain Holes?

Kevin is the one that has talked the most about adding soap to the bilge. He also has talked about using water test strips to test the water. Most of us have Lemon Joy dishwashing soap on the boat to wash our gear after fishing. The LJ soap does not upset the fish, they kinda like the smell. Congrat...

Re: North River Seahawk Drain Holes?

Kevin got it right those holes are in short sections of pipe or tube on the Swim Step. The holes are installed to stop the welds from Blowing out. The Big hole in your first picture is of your Kicker Bracket for water drain. Good to go. No worry if it was mine. An welcome to the site and ...

Re: New unproven design question

As a first time builder myself I had the help and assistance of a few people in the industry. If I had to do it over again I would go with a builder to weld out the basic hull.ready for rigging. Reason is you will have way less issues of how things fit and work together. Mistakes are made by the nov...

Dock Cart

Well my old dock cart Doo-doo the bed after three years staying in Westport, WA on the boat. I bought the cart from Lowes on the way to launch the boat in July of 2013. Last year the tires were worn bare when it was dragged to the laundry mat weekly by a Commercial Fishing friend that had no car. He...

Re: Seattle area cnc cutting/aluminum supplier?

Kevin As of yet I have not used K&K but I believe they uphold the Copyright laws and agreements. There are only so many designers and also just so many places to cut. Coldwater Bruce and Russ have their work done there and they are happy with K&K's quality. Alaska Copper ships the Plate to t...

Coldwater uses these guys. You buy the aluminum from Alaska copper and brass and they ship it to K and K who will do the cutting and then it is delivered to you or you can pick it up.
