Re: Prayers for fellow AABer

Marty was a huge man. A man with honor. A man that cared for the ones around him.

I will remember him forever.

My condolences to Cody and to his Wife.

Sincerely
John

Ironwood 25'x9'0 splashed today.

This 25' hit the water today. We have 4 boats going out with the same GARMIN 5212 plotter, the touch screen is great! The last 25' had the 5212 in the electronics box this on has it on the dash just above the engine controls. As well this one has a holding tank and a Lewmar anchor winch, no blue pai...

Hi Bullshipper

You are right both ways. It is our 36th, 25' hull.

This one is 50% spec / 50% customer order.

The next one posted is 70% spec / 30% customer order.

Hi Nuke

Just the two stanchions. No vibration. No cracked welds after 8000 hours at the fishing lodges.

We stopped using plastic tanks a few year ago.

The tops would collapse and twist. Then the tank would not vent properly and the gasket around the sender would leak.

Hi This is a 28ft boat we installed a ballast tank in this boat. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll106/Ironwoodboats/28ftOnTrailer.jpg The boat holds 350gallons (500miles at 50knots) of fuel in 2 tanks. When the fuel tanks are full the ballast tank is not needed. On of the concerns the owner had ...

Argon purging is very dangerous. There has been many welders killed buy welding in areas without proper air circulation. While Argon is great to suppress combustion it will also fill a compartment or hull up, displace the oxygen and suffocate you. It does not matter if the area has a 2ft hatch, a 10...

Hi Two things to consider are the local temperature of the water and how much the boat is used. Most of the boats we build that go up north do not get bottom painted. For 5 weeks I would not be worried but if any signs of barnacles show up then power wash it and/or paint it. Power washing the base o...

Hi

As well as the Eco Damp sheet in the hull we use an 1/2" acoustic foam/insulation on the ceilings and walls. Sounddown will have this as well. We use the carpet underlay below the plywood floors in the cabin.

Sincerely
John

Plywood with paint on it takes 1/2 an hour to dry. Plywood wrapped in vinyl takes days to dry. Epoxy or NON ALLOY resin is good stuff. Even try some wood stain. If you can keep the space under the deck vented this will help. Stainless Steel staples??? Keep the water from getting into the plywood fro...

Deck hatches are always a both. The nice thing with the hatch is that it has a coming around it. The bad thing is that it has a coming around it. If you want to open a hatch up while fishing having a coming around it will prevent water from entering the hull but then it ends up as a trip hazard. Bai...

Some help full hints on Zolatone There is little prep work needed, but it but it bonds to aluminum great. Zolatone makes both a white and a grey primer for aluminum. If you use the right color primer you will use 1/2 the top coat. You will need a pressure pot gun. To get the Zolatone on properly you...

I agree the hull should not be used as part of the circuit and I have a very little knowledge of lightning and flow of electrons So I may learn I would ask what you see happening if there is no fuse and a pos. wire contacts the hull without a wire from the battery negative to the hull. My preference is to run everything back to the battery. To me the engine leads should go from the pos. on the battery, though a battery switch to the starter, then from the negative on the engine back to the battery negative.....A side note: we have had boats that are positive ground. The engine can...

Question, is that 0 ohms or no continuity? For 25 years we have run a single 2ga wire from the battery(s) negative to the hull. We call it the hull saver ground. Then we test for zero ohms. We started doing this when we brought a boat in for bottom paint. The zincs where gone and there was electroly...

I would not think .080" material will hold a threaded fastener for any duration of time. How about some T Grip Rivets into the .080 Make sure they are stainless steel, most rivets are utility grade aluminum and don't last around saltwater. Also make sure the mandrel is either SS or aluminum. On...
