Re: Why is the windshield tilted that way
I have been that told one of the main reasons for the "Pilot House" windshield, which is tilted in at the bottom, is if you take a bunch of water over the bow a Pilot House windshield is less likely to be broken. Don't know if this is really true - I have taken a lot of water over our bow ...

Re: Batteries
I changed out my original, lead acid engine, batteries after 8 years of use with NorthStar AGMs. Lots of research - they seem to be one of the best, if not the best, AGMS available. Not cheap - but you get what you pay for.

Re: New to forum and bottom paint question
Good thoughts Kevin but in addition to longer life the US approved bottom paint yields much better performance. With the original Canadian approved bottom paint on my boat it was difficult to see any protection, especially with the build up of slime.

Re: New to forum and bottom paint question
GK1 I agree with Chaps assessment of Canadian Trilux. When I had my boat built by Daigle Welding in Campbell River BC I had bottom paint put on. Steve Daigle has been building aluminum boats for a long time so I did not do any research on the bottom paint. If I had it to do over again I don't think ...

Re: Drain plug?
"Its not a stupid question. Some boats don't have threaded holes for a pipe plug so those owners need to use some type of expanding rubber plug. Those of us who have threaded holes use either stainless or aluminum pipe plugs." Another option if you have a threaded drain hole is to use a he...

Re: Need a welder.
Recently I bought a Miller 211 MVP with Auto Set. I has about the same specifications as the 212 with the additional capability of being able to run on 120V or 240V. I don't care for the Auto Set, it works but it is more for beginning welders. The machine is a nice size and welds wonderfully. It can...

Re: Unpainted alloys...black hands?
Another reason some manufacturers insist on painting their boats is to hide the Bondo or other plastic filler they use to hide crappy welds. I have personally seen this on several Kingfisher boats.

Glen: A couple of spec questions. Overall length? Beam? Alloy and thickness of the bottom and sides? What is the MAX four stroke HP you would recommend for jet? For prop? Re: Do you wrap your boat for winter
Jetty: Good points. I have my trailer backed up on long boards in the driveway and I normally have tire covers on them but this year I had a mind fart and did not put the covers on. However where the boat is stored not much sun gets to the tires in the winter. We don't see too many problems with &qu...

West Lake [quote][Out of curiosity, why drop the lower unit? /quote] I don't drop the LUs for winter storage. In the pictures, taken a couple of years ago, they had been removed because we encountered a submerged, uncharted, underwater ridge which dinged both the LUs and the props. Rebuilt them both...

Re: Do you wrap your boat for winter
No reason other than it keeps the sun off the cowlings for about 6 months. Willy at Busters built the covers for me and the cowling covers are lined with a plush lining that eliminates any chaffing or rubbing. Welder - Yep they were missing when the photos were taken - if you see them in TX let me k...

Re: Do you wrap your boat for winter
I think the issue of whether or not to cover a boat in the winter depends on the boat and where you live. Spoiled One’s boat and mine are similar – welded aluminum. Pilot House and he does not cover his – I partially cover mine. I say partially because I only cover the aft cockpit. If some snow, rai...

OK - Winter is just around the corner and Termination Dust is imminent so the Dream Catcher is bedded down in my driveway for the winter. Re: Another trailer bunk question
I had Rolls Axle put them on my trailer when I had it built. You can get UHMW plastic from any good plastic supplier. It comes in a variety of thicknesses and colors and is normally stocked in 4' X 8' sheets. Since most people do not need a 4' X 8' sheet they will cut what you need. Since UHMW works...

Re: Another trailer bunk question
One of the best things you can use on a bunk trailer is to cover the bare or carpeted bunks with 1/4" or 5/16" " pieces of UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) plastic about the width of the bunks using counter sunk stainless steel screws to attach the UHMW to the bunks. http://i254.pho...
