Re: Gas tank leak...
Gil, what motor are your running on yer boat ?In a pinch offshore I would just put a screw in it to stop the leak but when I got home I would get a new tank. I have a 55hp Yamaha 2-stroke... I'm still planning on going up to a 90hp 4-stroke, but then I start looking at all these different makes of ...

Re: Gas tank leak...
Good gawd.........we're talking 12 gallons :?: :?: :?: Holy crap. All this really never warrented discussion even."Oh well, thats 10 minutes of life I lost....George." Yeah, I heard you the first time... The question was how to fix a plastic tank, something people use a lot on small Alumi...

Re: Gas tank leak...
here's the replacement I did, and I think it's the right answer on this site. When I had the deck off I considered below deck tanks or saddle tanks but decided there wasn't enough room. I would love to have aluminum tanks plumbed in properly, although the 2 12gl. tanks are a lot easier to take to t...

Re: Gas tank leak...
I believe there was no need for discussion at all and it was a no brainer, after all. You have a photo of this craft, to post? I'm no scientist and don't know that much about plastics... so I thought maybe there was a way to repair this material safely, since it appears there isn't, I will throw it...

Re: Gas tank leak...
Great Googly Moogly!!! I knew there was some FZ lurkers here... The tank is an above deck Tempo brand and fits under the bait well/leaning post. The old ones were, well... old... and I replaced them with a similar size. I guess they fit into the space a little differently and rubbed on one of ...

Re: Gas tank leak...
You can maybe cover the leaky area with that Sears Poncho, I hear they're the best! :rotfl: :rotfl: I stole that from a Frank Zappa song, so be careful you don't use it on a Zappapfile or he might start saying things like Zircon encrusted tweazers and yellow snow... I guess I'll just buy ano...

Gas tank leak...
I already asked this question on another board and think I know what I have to do, but... One of my almost new red polyethylene gas tanks has a leak. I thought it was from the connections so I fixed them and then it leaked again ruining my new deck coating. It appears that it is rubbing on a fastene...

Re: Through Hull Ducer
I recently installed a new Airmar SS thru hull transducer with the built in deadrise compensator. On a Bayrunner 19' it was a little difficult positioning it correctly on the hull and still having access to the mounting nut in the small bilge area. I considered cutting an access hole in the deck but...

Re: Cleaning my Outboard
Yes, I do it after each use and spray wd-40 after. The motor looks like new after 10 years. If you have a lot of salt residue after running you might want to check the rubber boots and seals for leaks. I hear corrosion x and salt away are good products also for after rinse...

I used wood because it contours to the shape of the hull and has some give to it. I used pressure treated so it would resist rotting. I considered trex but it sags too much and backing it with tubing would make it rigid. Maybe trex with some aluminum angle as a support would be one way to go. The ca...

I have noticed more salt build up on the ends of my trailer bunks at the stern since replacing them a couple of years ago with pressure treated wood and carpet. I don't think there was a better choice for materials, but I could have painted the wood first. I guess I'll just keep an eye on the carpet...

I had some corrosion issues on the transom of mine. I remedied the problem by installing a battery negative switch to go with the existing battery positive selector switch. Now when it's not in use I switch off both and the battery voltage is completely isolated from the hull. I have had salt accumu...

I just looked at the Yamaha specifications, the 2-stroke is about 100 lbs lighter. Now, I looked at the specs on the 75 vs 90 as Rock suggested and was I surprised. They are the same motor! Same displacement, weight, etc. Why would someone want the 75 if it weighs and costs the same but doesn't have...

Thanks to everyone for the input. I too am concerned with weight on the transom and Chaps brings up a good point that I didn't think of. I'll have to look up 90hp 2 strokes and see what they weigh. Also, maybe I should look into a prop that is pitched more for torque than top speed. It's nice to be ...

Motor size...
I have a 1996 19' Bayrunner with a 55 Yamaha on it. I want to repower with a larger motor and can't decide what size to get. The hull is rated for 90hp but I don't know if I need that much. I have been looking at the Yamaha 75 4-stroke but I don't want to end up with something that doesn't quite pus...
