Re: aluminum prices????

My friend in a local machine shop was just quoted @3.89/lb for 3 sheets of 5052. He needed 100pc-9"x9" x 1/8" pieces. I told him I would cut my drop pieces for $2.00/ lb. Last weeks scrap aluminum actually went down a few cents a pound to .48 cent/lb. I'd be a little afraid to quote a...

Re: Black Water Tank Sending Units

The sending units come with there fancy mounting ring. We weld a 1 1/2 NPT fitting in the tank and screw in. Generally they recommend a length about 3/4 of the depth of the tank. The sender with out the protective cover is a fuel sending unit, but the float is the same as the blackwater one. The gau...

aluminum prices????

So today's quote for 5052 went from @1.80 last month to $2.89/lb. today. And they didn't have it. Its seem like everybody buying up inventory .
Sales person said there were shortages from the mill. Maybe the mill needs to turn up production.

Re: Stretching a SAFEBoat

Time to move on the next phase of this project. The whole purpose of this project was to make the boat bigger and move the helm off of the bow. Yes there is a visibility issue at the very bow. There may need to be a lower row of windows. The customer should be around this weekend to OK what we have ...

Re: Stretching a SAFEBoat

Sorry, we added 9'6". Some of the challenges have been getting the fuel tank out and matching the custom extrusion that Safeboat uses for the running strake. We made something very close by cutting down a 2x2x 1/4 Tee. We have a cabin extension planned, so more to follow. Happy New Years, Welde...

Re: Stretching a SAFEBoat

inspired! We found the framing in the boat a little different. There are longitudinal stringers, cut the transverse frames go off on a 45 degree angle. We put it back together similar to there construction. We did use a transverse frame 90 degrees to the longs because we used it for the support for t...

Re: Stretching a SAFEBoat

I've reloaded the photo from my phone and with Les new magic ,the picture look like they are working. So the first step was to figure out where the fuel tank was. As a side note it is impossible to remove the fuel tank from a 25' SAFEBoat with out totally hacking up the boat. We were able to lift th...

Re: Stretching a SAFEBoat

If you think that pictures was cool, this guy was breaking 10" of ice. My poor boat. I'll try the safeboat pictures from my work computer. The reason to stretch a safeboat is because the customer wanted a bigger boat and he owns several of these surplus boats. The customer has the foam collar h...

Re: Attaching Cushions To Aluminum Seats

The canvas guys have lots of tricks. 1. use a track along the back edge of the cushion and a few snap to hold the front down. (pop Rivet the track down with aluminum rivets) 2.if you need a backing in the cushion, use pvc board instead of plywood 3. watch what you use for foam, outside cushion shoul...
