New From My Shop

The latest from my shop, a 7M nose-picker sport runabout. Did this for a young man that I've known since he was born, now a marine pilot. Tip top client in that he knows my edge and can deal with it. For youins that are interested in the welding aspects of skiff building, the only thing interesting ...

Re: Recent Chine Extrusion Experience

One more thing: Kevin, how do you go about the repair? I've always turned it away, period.

Re: Recent Chine Extrusion Experience

My nature wants me to name names because this is the most common method of chine construction on what I call cookie-cutter skiffs, and it's a very bad idea! I'll go with what Kevin suggests, for his intelligent reasons, for now. Why even do this? Because it's attractive, protective of impact and mos...

Re: 25' Skiff

At the end of my career, I work alone for the most part or try to as much as I can. One of the most daunting things to do by self is to flip the thing over and back. For me, my method is a work in progress. I have an overhead track down the center of a modest size shop with two chainfalls. I've buil...

Re: 25' Skiff

On the welding fixture 'hog trough' does the gun lay with the case on the outside (right side in posted pic) and the barrel just hanging over the blue plastic slide pipe? The 30A gun has a fairly large front of case panel if I recall (?) so the gun is kept the exact distance from the weld as it tra...

Re: 25' Skiff

In the end, there may be only two things that viewers may find useful from my efforts. The first is to download AddBlock and use it to wipe out those irritating and awful smilies that crawl around like blowflies on a moose carcass to the right of the text box. I've never used them and never will and...

Re: 25' Skiff

Kevin, Body plan attached. kmorin's quote: She's very full forward, her work boat heavy load heritage showing? and she has the T bottom aft where the engine mount's lowers are the bottom plane extended. On the 20'er's did this bottom work so well you've gone to that configuration as your solution to...

25' Skiff

Here is lines view of the skiff I'm building now. 25'x8' 6", 15* at the stern, has a cabin, self-bailing deck. 3/16" sides, 1/4" bottom. It's an iteration of a design I've been working on for awhile. Surface modeling done in ProSurf. Major parts cut CNC plaz by Alaska Steel, Anchorage, AK. I'm quite...

Re: Another old noob

Thanks for the replys. I'm located in Homer, AK and yes, Kevin and I communicate. As a matter of fact, I owe him some 'spainin as I haven't been responding as I should. My daughter is getting married on the 2nd next month (and relocating, all at once) and I'm awfully behind on this boat is my lame e...

Another old noob

New guy that's really an old guy that builds AL boats of my own design. Here is a pic of the latest start - a 25' cabin skiff. To those who might know: is there a way to get rid of those horrid emoticons doing mischief over there on the right? It's like flies crawling around on a page that you're wr...

Re: Net Skiff Build

Lordy, recently I've had the pleasure of having some discourse with K. Morin on several topics. I find myself giving him the hat tip quite often. What a generous resource this man is! I read this series and could only feel good, and, amazed.
