Re: replacing springs, and flipping the axle
So finally getting around to replacing the springs. After looking at everything, I noticed that it appears the axle had a one inch half square stock tack welded to the 2x2 axle. Making the axle a 2x3, maybe to strengthen the axle up, who knows why. I've always knew my trailer was really high, 24 inc...

replacing springs, and flipping the axle
IMAG0897.jpg It's that time to replace my trailer leaf springs. I need a second opinion. I would like to locate the axle to the top of the springs. Right now the 2x3 axle is about 6 inches to the bottom of the frame, with the axle being 3" high. I believe I would have to turn the axle so the 2...

The stainless-nylon nut can be stainless, BUT because the tilt tube is carbon steel you have dissimilar metals which is a no no.

Re: hydraulic steering issues
I have cable steering in my boat and lost steering the first year I owned it. I now remove the cable out of the tilt tube and clean and re-lube (not grease). First your will need to remove the nut on the tilt tube on the side of the outboard that the cable (tube) come out and in on. Then undue the n...

Re: Mechanical Steering locked
You will have to clean the cable - rod and tilt tube. Here is a good link to what I did. I also added a steersman to one end because part of the thread on the other end of the tilt tube was cut off for the cable nut. I would not use grease but gear box lube like the purple stuff. http://www.brushyla...

Re: Electric boat trailer winch??
I had one when I bought my boat. It worked nice for a few years but now I pulled it right off and put it in the basement. It wouldn't hold tight and the cable rusted up. I even changed the clutch washers and it still wouldn't hold. Not worth the money.

Re: Penn Senator Special with stuck drag
Tin,
I have the wrench if you need it sooner. Sounds like the washers have burned out. You will need new fiber and metals washers. I changed to the smooth drag washers and Cal's grease. I have a tub of grease if you want some.

AT glad to see your safe. My wife works in Southbridge MA and thank god she was home just before the storm hit. Rte 169, Rte 131 were closed so she had the next day off after the storm since school was closed. So we went to see the damage, the planes at the airport were upside down, thrown in the wo...

Now it will just be another legal line in the sell of a boat and an added cost to decline and take full responsibility for.
