Re: Wooldridge Pilothouse's under construction photos
I am a HUGE fan of the Evinrude G2. I am a Mechanical Engineer and am looking forward to finding out how this new design holds up after a few years. The "G1 Etechs had a few issues for the first few years. Hoping that is not the same case for the G2. Hoping that they will next come out with a G...

Re: My new North River Seahawk Offshore 24'
Great to hear! Hoping to one day purchase a brand new aluminum boat myself. Down here in Santa Cruz, I'm about 8 hours south of the closest manufacturers in Oregon. Having to return a boat to the factory for warranty repairs would not be an easy task for me. Also, I'm not a big fan of "managing...

Re: 1982 Valco with Anodized ribs/framing?
Thank you all so much for your intelligent feedback. Kmorin: It took me a while to process all of your information but after researching some other posts and figuring out all of the terminology, I am confident that I understand most of what you are pointing out and suggesting. Overall, you bring up ...

Re: My new North River Seahawk Offshore 24'
Hi I've been following this thread for quite some time. Can you give us some updates? What ever happened with the hydraulic leak? I'm curious to see some close ups of the salt water patina. If you could do it all over again would you paint more or paint less of the boat? What else? What surprised yo...

Re: 1982 Valco with Anodized ribs/framing?
Kmorin: Thank you! I have no doubt that the original structural design of this boat could have been improved and it would not suprise me if the "new" welds crack if I push the boat too hard. Also, I will respond more later because, I am still processing your response. For now, here are som...

Re: 1982 Valco with Anodized ribs/framing?
kmorin: Thank you so much for your detailed response. I think I was able to follow about 90% of your details and instructions. I will definitely do the vinegar test. Your description of "impurities" makes sense. I was a skeptic about the anodizing originally and still am. It sounds like I ...

Re: 1982 Valco with Anodized ribs/framing?
Yes it would have been anodized prior to being installed, It's an elctro-chemical prosses that gets dunked in a tank. As a T-top and tower builder I TIG weld anodized without removing the anodized all the time. I tried to MIG it one time and it's a bear to get the ark started. Thanks "gandrfab...

Re: 1982 Valco with Anodized ribs/framing?
Just to add a bit more about this. If the framing was anodized it would have to be anodized prior to being installed on the boat right? But then they would have to weld anodized aluminum right? This makes no sense. I also wanted to mention that my welder says "I think the quality of the aluminu...

1982 Valco with Anodized ribs/framing?
Hi people I need some advice. I recently aquired a 1982 21 ft all welded Valco Aluminum boat. I found a few cracked welds in the vertical square tubing deck supports. I have a really good welder that has done work for me for years. I had him fix/replace the cracked welds and he mentioned to me that ...

Re: Bitumen Tar on the inside of an aluminum boat?
O.K. Here's an update. It rained here yesterday so I used it as an opportunity to go to the carwash and scrub the hell out of the inside of the boat. Because of the nature of the aluminum framing (x and y) structural supports for the boats integrity as well as deck supports, there are definitely a f...

Re: Bitumen Tar on the inside of an aluminum boat?
Run if your boat is in his boat's condition. It Might work if you had Clean Corrosion Free Aluminum. If not your Painting over the Corrosion which will make it accelerate. Big time! Lack Of Oxygen for the metal to breath. It will seal the boat for a summer but I see wrong Fasteners (steel), Corrosi...

Re: Mill Scale on 1982 Bayrunner by Westcoaster
OK, here's a picture of the outside of the bow portion of the hull, above the water line. I have an 18 ft 1982 "Valco" Bayrunner with the same exact millscale and flowering problems..... I'd like to share my story and experience: I got this boat used because the previous owner passed away...
