Re: Clean under floorboards- drainage ideas?
Totally agree JonH. I had buyers remorse also flanker71 after I purchased my boat and found out about these issues. I still have my boat and I am enjoying it!

Re: Hull Corrosion on Hewescraft 220 Ocean Pro
Thank you for the response Kevin. After looking at the photos I posted (after the post) it's pretty hard to see what I'm talking about. I guess I'm understanding that I need to be a little more aggressive with the sanding in these areas, maybe use a belt sanding instead of the orbital with 60 grit t...

Re: Hull Corrosion on Hewescraft 220 Ocean Pro
After my first sanding project, I noticed that the flowering was coming back everywhere after several months. I'm back at it with power tools going to a courser grit to start (60 grit). I did a test patch to see where I'm at so these are pictures of sanding up to 600 and then a polish to see the sur...

Clean under floorboards- drainage ideas?
It's the dreaded under floorboard cleaning! I have read a few topics on pulling floorboards on a few different brands of boats and have seen them fixed a couple different ways so I thought I would post and ask advice on my specific situation. First off, I have vinyl covered wood floorboards that wer...

Re: Pitting and Corrosion on Inner Bottom of Hull
This is a great post, I found a few answers I was looking for. I have a similar problem with my wood floorboards sitting on top of foam filled spaces. I too took all of the foam out, wire wheeled (Stainless steel) all the metal, and finally acid washed the bilge and also those areas containing foam....

Re: Uh oh! Is this corrosion?
Rendog, It looks like you've got the right idea. I posted a thread in the middle of last year called Corrosion on Hewescraft Ocean Pro 220 and it was about the same "flowering" issue that you have. I actually acid etched my boat and then put two layers of shark hide on after the boat dried...

Re: Hull Corrosion on Hewescraft 220 Ocean Pro
Thanks Kevin. I think I'll wait a few days and see what Hewescraft says and then I'll try acid etching again to see if that gets the rest of the corrosion. I would love to avoid the intense manual labor... If I do decide to go back to sanding, would you recommend a straight line sander? I sanded str...

Re: Hull Corrosion on Hewescraft 220 Ocean Pro
I have contacted ZEP and it looks like they will direct ship to me if I wish. They smallest quantity they sell is 4 gallons but this might be worth a shot considering this has worked so well for Kevin. I have also found the SDS for the KO Manufacturing Brite Alume which is fairly similar to the ZEP-...

Re: Hull Corrosion on Hewescraft 220 Ocean Pro
I started with the maroon scotch brite pad over the whole boat and made a little bit of progress. I then sanded with 600, 800, 1000, and finally 1500 all by hand because I am gluten for punishment. After this I took the full strength KO Brite Alume and acid etched three times. Here are a couple not ...

Re: Hull Corrosion on 2010 Hewescraft 220 Ocean Pro
Thanks for the continued support everyone. I have checked to make sure I have all the Sharkhide off of the boat with a couple methods. I tried using the Jabsco paint remover and letting it sit on the surface for 15 minutes as the directions suggest and I got nothing coming off of the surface. I trie...

Re: Hull Corrosion on 2010 Hewescraft 220 Ocean Pro
Kevin, I used an automotive thinner that I got from NAPA. I put the thinner in a spray bottle and sprayed it onto the aluminum and wiped it off with a paper towel. I thought I got all of the Sharkhide, there were a few small spots where I knew I hadn't got all of it after the acid process. The metal...

Re: Hull Corrosion on 2010 Hewescraft 220 Ocean Pro
So, I spent a whole day getting all the Sharkhide off with lacquer thinner. This was not as easy as the website would make you think. The next day I am prepared to acid etch the boat with 2 gallons of Aluminum brightener from NAPA(this was the best I could get my hands on), Scotch brite pads, and th...

Re: Hull Corrosion on 2010 Hewescraft 220 Ocean Pro
Thank you Goatram! When I first used the Sharkhide brand aluminum cleaner, I did not tape anything off as the owner said it would not effect the plastic decal above the metal that I was treating. Obviously the Zep-a-lume is much stronger so you are recommending taping off areas that I don't want the...

Hull Corrosion on Hewescraft 220 Ocean Pro
Hey Alloy boat members! I am new to posting here as I have only "lurked" or read numerous posts and forums on the subject that I am posting on. At the risk of repeating many other topics I am bringing up the corrosion issue again to get ideas to deal with my situation. I originally reached...
