Re: Hull ride differences between manufacturers
Hi hatcher The Grady-White / Hunt video is excellent - good find! Hunt also does alloy hulls, primarily pilot boats but they do some smaller alloy hulls, typically one-off customs such as my 28'. Their alloy hulls are also variable deadrise. Attached photos of a 70' Hunt pilot boat and my 28', in se...

Re: Hull ride differences between manufacturers
A few general points - All things being equal, a heavier boat will ride better than a lighter one of same length. There is no substitute for weight but as you noted more HP & fuel consumption also. More deadrise, particularly in the forward part of the hull will generally give a better ride. A v...

Re: welded hull structure options
Hi chille51 Here is the hull structure of my 28' x 10' (not counting the bracket) boat that was built by Crozier and designed by Hunt. This structure is basically a scaled down pilot boat, probably overkill in some ways - 12 frames / 8 longitudinals plus CVK, using 5086 H116 Alu. The side shell plat...

Re: pacific assassin build
Looks like a great boat! Having gone the custom boat route myself, a few thoughts - 1) Are you or a professional going to do the bottom paint job? If a pro I highly recommend "Chaps" on this forum, his shop is on Bainbridge Is. My boat went from the builder to Chaps shop then had engines m...

Looks like Coastal Craft has started a multi-hull division - same PO Box, etc.
The green sound deadening foam can also be seen on Coastal Craft's web site.
The same very high (and very high dollar) finishes, etc.

Re: New boat questions - hydraulic steering, carpet, trim tabs
Hi BoatingChris In addition to Kevin's comments I'll add the following - 1) I would go with hydraulic steering - no question. 2) Trim tabs are nice to have for balancing the boat - if the lateral loading is uneven or if going into a head sea. Both boats you are considering appear to be relatively lo...

In addition to what Chaps said -
If you are getting the hull sandblasted prior to all the paint coatings,
get the trim tabs sandblasted and coated also, I had this done to my boat,
by Chaps by the way.

Re: Hull design- thoughts?
Listed fuel capacity is 250 gal - pretty small for a boat of this size & power. 25" transom height is unusual for a boat of this size - 30" would be normal. What is the estimated displacement - both light ship & fully loaded? Gunwale width is 10" - is this the entire length of...

Re: How serious is this corrosion?
Have you scheduled a sea trial? Reason I ask is those propellers are of the "cleaver" type which are used in surface piercing (party submerged) high performance applications. They are mounted high enough to be partly out of the water when on plane. They are typically very expensive to repl...

Hi Dave
Are you looking to go with a new build or used?
Can you go greater than a 9.5' beam?
What is your budget?

Re: Pacific boat fuel tank, lasted only 11 yrs.
Be very careful using a fan to pull out a air/vapor mix! If the fan is NOT intrinsically safe you could have a very bad ending. If you have more than one point of access to the bilge it's much better to blow air in and let it flow out via another opening. Make sure the boat is outside when you do th...

Re: 24 foot boat build for Northwest
Crozier built my 28' boat and did a 1st class job.
Go to his website and click his Facebook page - he updates it almost every week
with the progress being made on his current builds.
He has 23' boat that is almost done, he might be taking it to the Seattle boat show.
Feel free to PM if you want.

Re: 250's or 300's???
My 28' Crozier with a single Yamaha 350 V-8 gets 1.35 to 1.45 Nmpg at a 25 to 26 knot cruise speed. A friends 28' Crozier with a single Yamaha 300 V-6 gets 1.1 to 1.2 Nmpg at similar speeds. Note - while the hull shapes are not the same (hulls are designed by different NA's) the weights are within a...

Re: 26’ Cat or 28’Monohull
If you are going with the mono hull I would suggest at least twin 200's.
Twin 150's is pretty light on power for that size boat - boats only gain weight during their lives!

Re: 26’ Cat or 28’Monohull
Hard to say if a 8.5' beam cat or a 9.5' beam mono will be more "stable", everyone has a different idea of a good ride, etc. If cruising for up to 10 days at a time is most important to you then the wider the beam the better simply for the useable space and comfort you will have. If traile...

Re: 26’ Cat or 28’Monohull
The mono will give you more space as Chaps noted. Typically cats work very well going into a chop and they roll less - their weak spot is usually in a large following sea due to the lower hull volume. Another consideration is how high is the tunnel - the higher the better for ride / less wave slap. ...
