Re: New guy - first alloy boat

I bought a Stabicraft 2500 sport fish last year, the open cabin not the xl, and I’m impatiently waiting on delivery. Delay, delay, delay………. anyway. Interested in how to keep corrosion at bay and take care of the thing. This seems to be the place.   I empathize with your delivery delay and waiting p...

Re: Pacific skiff vs. Stabicraft

I guess it depends if sooner than later timing is important to you and if the boats you are looking at are already built, and residing in the USA. If you are ordering a new build, then in addition to a build queue, the stabicraft timing will also include container shipping to USA, and port congestio...

Yes.

The 1925 pacific is a nice boat. If I did lake MI fishing, other than the pier heads, I'd probably look at a larger pacific myself.

Re: New, to me, Boat; convert from work to fishing; stop corrosion

the tow bit is cut out. There were holes in the tow bit bottom plate where, I assume, it was screwed into another boat. Those had been sealed with silicone or some such caulk. But, there was still water between the plates. But, the corrosion wasn't bad and pitted like under the bottom paint. Still, ...

Re: New, to me, Boat; convert from work to fishing; stop corrosion

I got to spend a bit of time on the boat this weekend and got the motor guards off. I used fiber cutting disks. Worked okay, but I can see how a cutting tool would be better. I’m not wanting to try cutting disks on the tow bit, as I really want to get the whole plate out so the deck is back to just ...

Kevin,

I sent you 3 emails with the pictures attached. Sorry, I can't figure out how to get them to post directly into the body of the post.

New, to me, Boat; convert from work to fishing; stop corrosion

I picked up a new, to me, boat. It's a 16' and 3/16" 5086 aluminum. It’s an interesting boat with high sides and a modified V of 12 or 13 degree. It has a tow bit and outboard guards. I think these will get in the way of landing fish, so I’ll probably cut them off. It has a welded in deck that ...

Re: Side mount rod holder suggestions?

I like tite-lok clamp on. Use them trolling steelhead.
