kevin, you seem like an experienced guy. have you ever seen a case of rust(iron oxide) seeping through failed galvanized plating? not all zinc plating is done well. i have no problem with zinc plating...it is what is under it i have a problem with. like you said, it comes down to what the skipper wa...

i have used some aluminum fasteners on aluminum boats since the early 90s. haven't had one break or come loose yet. then again they are not torqued to 100ft/lbs, nor are they are not holding the drivetrain together. i'll pass on using galvanized steel anywhere on my boats. cheers

diluted muriatic acid rinsed off after a few minutes? i am not sure it will work for you, but i have used it before.

ok, i am totally unclear what a silver half cell is, and where i could source one. somehow i have dodged the corrosion bullet in my 25 years of saltwater/alum boat ownership. i would like to do some testing before my luck runs out.

i recently bought this 29' ottercraft. it replaces a uscola 26' i had built in 1991. if you see me in the southeast between ketchikan and juneau this summer say hey, and join me for a cold one. cheers.

one rarely encounters the term " 21 foot" and "offshore" in the same sentence. that said, I suppose any craft on the water is "offshore"
