Re: Decking replacement again
I agree Bob. When Lester gets my pictures posted you will be able to see that I also have wood that will make the deck to hull connection maybe easier. I have to get off my busy butt and sign up to a picture storage place so I can get you guys a better look at the deck. I am starting early planing t...

Re: Decking replacement again
Aluminator, A friend of mine had a stainless steel chain guard on his Duffy. We removed it to repair a windless. It was attached with 5200 purchased at West marine. We had to force oak wedges under it and cut the adhesive with a knife to remove the guard, damm tuff stuff SS to polished NON ALLOY. :...

Re: Decking replacement again
That stuff looks interesting but I still need a good sub base first.
I am looking into a good adhesive to bond the decking to the aluminum supports without screws.

Decking replacement again
The repairs never seem to stop! My next project is to replace the gear with a down angle ZF 220A in order to get the flush deck I have always wanted. My setup now is with an engine box to cover the 6" of the Cummins that didn't make it under the deck. This part of my next face lift is straight ...

Re: Another trailer bunk question
Well I went one step backward this time around. Might sound crazy but aren't a lot of boat builders crazy too?? LOL I am going to use just the wood (red oak) without carpet. I treated a few bunk sections with Corrosion X-HD and will have a look in a few weeks. My thought was that less salt water wou...

Another trailer bunk question
I am finishing my trailer repairs and after reading the other comments about corrosion caused from trapped water what do you think about using some Corrosion X sprayed on the carpet?

Re: Hull Zinc
I have my diesel completely isolated from my hull. I even put a solenoid on the neg cable to the battery so it is only connected when I am cranking. On an outboard can't you use a plastic sleeved bolts and some more plastic at the transom to isolate it? Almost every skiff I see around here has the p...

Re: Hull Pitting Under Trailer Bunks
I spent the day yesterday replacing the bunks and noticed that even with a 5086 hull I found a lot of corrosion under my front two short bunks. The only thing I could figure out was the hull sets very tightly there and the carpet helped trap the water. No problems under the main support bunks!! Not ...

fuel gauge
I have a 200 gal diesel fuel tank and want to install a sender and dash mounted gauge. Between a wooden dowel and my Flow Scan I have gotten by but I am feeling lazy and miss not having a real gauge. I have looked at one that uses a tube that senses the level and another that measures like a depth f...

Another to paint or not question
Bottom paint that is. How much speed do you think I could gain by painting the bottom? I trailer my 27x10 single diesel and like many, it spends most of it's life sitting on the trailer but this summer I am planning to bring it down to Puerto Vallarta. It will be seeing up to a week at a time sittin...

A good reason to have a metal boat
I saw this and though all the metal boat owners might enjoy it. I do feel sad for the burning boat owner but also tip my hat to the skipper that helped save the day! This was in FLA a day or two ago.

I poured two part epoxy on the back side of the lid and it made it over twice as strong. A quick fix before you replace it..

I agree that a fishing boat needs all the room inside for moving around and I can do without the extra stuff getting into my way!

Yup, Coho and Kings. It has been a lot of years since I fished salmon but it still was a blast! We fished on the west side of your island in the ocean. I used to fish Lake Michigan and have caught a lot of them but the salt water ones seem to taste better. I am now hooked on Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ...

Mark, I will start a new thread soon with some pictures.
Boat Buck, I got to fish up on your island this summer and one thing you have is a lot of rocks!!! Oh ya a lot of salmon too. We were catching over 25 a day but had to let a lot of of them go. Fun place you call home!

Re: Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'
Those idiots over on Bloodydecks should get a load of this, maybe that would convince em. I'm an original Bloody Decks Member. I had my first aluminum boat in 1973. The photos above are just further evidence of the value of an AL boat. No other material would work for that application. ( very long ...

I got busy with my real job today but maybe tomorrow I will start looking at each circuit until I find the bugger!!!Chaps wrote:Somewhere in your boat there must be an electrical device that is attached to a bulkhead, panel or hull framing that grounds through its mount.

Re: How much 12 volt in your hull?
My engine electrical system is isolated from my house bank and the diesel starter is the only ground to the engine and that is only connected when the started is turning. Then a solenoid disconnects the ground wire. So yes the hull is isolated and not used for a ground! I even have an isolated groun...

Re: How much 12 volt in your hull?
Thanks guys! If you only knew how much extra work that I have done to be sure that this didn't happen. I have a separate battery for starting and even have a solenoid on the neg cable to disconnect it when not in use for cranking. All wires are pairs and if any load uses the base for ground I have i...

How much 12 volt in your hull?
I am finishing my boat makeover and have been watching my volt meter as I am doing some new wiring. Today I hooked up a wire and with my meter red on + battery and the - to the hull I got 6 volts. I then touched the red to the hull and nothing sparked at all. Next I started looking around and even w...

Thanks Les. Try to get red die diesel when I can but she runs well on any #2. I should have some pictures of her almost completed in a couple of week.
This is the reason to fish Puerto Vallarta. #323
It looks like I need some tips of posting my pictures. LOL

OK, Another thing to look at. Take one of those cheap little 12 volt testers(the ones with the sharp end and a light) and put the clip on the pos side of your battery and touch the other end to your hull. Did the light go on? If so your hull is connected to your 12 volt system and you need to correc...
