In the discussions above I got the impression that trying to weld on the corroded areas would be unwise and the corroded area is too large to cut out. Any idea about the etching?

Hi had a thread on this subject that died off so I'm trying agin with a clearer question.
Im looking to build a cheap floor and I'm now considering a bit thicker untreated wood planks that I paint with linseed oil to give some protection.
Could this have any bad effects on the aluminium?

Hi! some follow up here. I have now washed, brushed, drilled out, etched and filed the holes with marine glue goop =) I just have a question regaring the acid etching. Ok, I'm sorry if I'm offending people on this forum. It's not my intention. The floors on my boat was previously treated wood, probably with copper, that probably caused corrosion. Because of this I decided to build a new floor of untreated wood. Larch is untreated, but naturally resistant to rott. ...

Ya I guess that would be a ok project, but I dont want to spend much money on this boat and I have already bought larch and cut it to pieces. If larch is a no go I think I just put down a bit thicker untreated wood.

What do you think? Anyone know if larch is a problem?

So I got my first boat, a aluminium one, and now after one season, its leaking.
