Re: Narrowing it down

Softest ride in windchop and many other reasonable conditions, boat length and width being similar, will be a catamaran. No question. If you want tin, Armstrong, ACI Boats, and Lee Shore come to mind. If glass is doable, then glacier bay or world cat (semi displacement vs planning hulls, respectivel...

Re: New guy looking for advice

If you're just getting into boating, there are lots of added costs to equipping a boat properly. Many of the new boats skimp on features to keep a low price point, leaving the new owner to incrementally add or upgrade these items later... increasing the real cost. However, the guy who has had and fi...

Sleeping 4 in a 28' doesn't leave much room for a fishing cockpit.

Plenty of head room and space inside the cabin.

She will comfortably fish that six-pack group.

The cabin doors need wrapped, but that will happen shortly. Adding some grab bars to each, before they are wrapped.

Hope you enjoy following this build.

Re: Shhhhhh. New build coming shortly

Swung by the ACI shop yesterday. Had fun going over a few details before the unveiling at the Seattle Boat Show. IMG_8979.JPG First thing was to give the boys a little custom gift. Found a guy down in Longview, WA that hooked me up with etched RTIC tumblers. IMG_1164.JPG Let's start small. Just the ...

Pretty. Scuba diving or sky diving though? That girl is awesome tall. I bet it'll be a hoot to roll back off those gunwales and into the big blue :).

How about pics of the inside? Looks like there are some very purposeful additions to her,

That's awesome, and the same I'd like to see. Hence, it's why I'll refrain from posting numbers until I can be certain that nothing will be misleading. 15 January is the anticipated sea trial.  Looking to run a similarly sized monohull side by side for comparison too. I just hope we get...

Re: Shhhhhh. New build coming shortly

Dry weight (no motors or liquids) is around 7k pounds. Probably leave the shop near 8,800 pounds. Twin 125 gallon fuel tanks on this one. Fuel burn is something that I won't even try to suggest yet. I hate reading about estimates with 2 guys, 1/2 tank of fuel, no gear, and in the bay or a lake. I'm ...

Re: Shhhhhh. New build coming shortly

Pretty typical of a catamaran to turn flat, like a quad during higher speed turns. Some of that feeling can be mitigated by trimming the motors differently through the turn. I've never felt, nor has my crew indicated, a concern about being tossed. Then again, I've not needed a very sharp turn at hig...

Bob, I was up there today and planned on pitching having you do the bottom paint!!! Saw this... IMG_2523.JPG I figured the paint would have been near the end of the process :(. The bottom is just shadowing, not differences in the primer (or whatever that stuff is). Still debating the second helm. Yo...

Shhhhhh. New build coming shortly

I sold my North River long ago and am 2 boats past her (28' Grady White and now a 29' World Cat center console). Both being Clorox bottles, so nothing to really post here. But I've continued to lurk. Well, I now have something fun to share. Sorta. I was asked to hold off here and on another site, pr...

Re: Price range for the Gov't rig

Just got word that GSA intends to put the pisting up on Wednesday, 6 February. Apparently, the kicker is a POS. Not sure if it's the motor or the 3" prop sitting on it.

Re: Price range for the Gov't rig

If we could do a cash deal, my buddy would buy it for me :). Yeah, often our rigs are well used. This one has been lucky. I think it'll go on GSA auctions next week. It's in Bremerton, WA if anyone wants to give it a look.

Price range for the Gov't rig

We have a government tin boat we no longer have a use for, so it's gonna go to auction. GSAAuctions I think. Anyway, I'm trying to get a rough idea of a minimum price we should accept. Some of our boats get worked pretty hard, but this isn't one of them. Most of the guys just don't like it compared ...

Apparently the CG Aux doesn't have to follow the same rules they teach boaters. I imagine those guys must think they're the stand-on vessel when approaching a sailboat too. Yahoos!

Re: New Boat?

My buddy has the 24' Alaskan, and it's quite functional and caught plenty of albies last year (first summer with it), but it's not self-bailing. He did a little floor work to help things drain but it's not perfect. He had the rig back at Hewes for a little touch up and they found a couple of chovies...

Re: New Boat?

Go with 3/16" over 1/4" in a 26' rig for the PacNW. No way. Sure, it'll lighter, but lighter boats are more apt to rideon top of the chop rather than through it a bit. Bang, bang, bang. And if you're out halibut fishing in a 3/16" bottom, you'll hear and feel the hull. More like twang...

Re: Fishing the North West

Here in western WA, we can start with cruddy blackmouth (king salmon), then onto lings and some other bottom fish, perhaps a steel head run, then river salmon. But, I just hunt through January, take Feb off, dawg train March - June, play with some late spring white sturgeon, and then my fishing real...

I PMd him yesterday to see where he's at with this rig. Hadn't seem a post since Feb. This is on my radar as it'd be a fun rig for chasing albacore along the WA/OR coast. Do you know the seller or any additional info?
