Re: Transducer inside hull
I think if you mount it that far forward you will get way too much turbulance to get a good reading. Transducers need to read through "clear" water to work right (if I recall correctly).

Re: to windlass or not to windlass??
After years and years of being jealous of other people and their handy windlasses, I just finished installing one on my 26' Silverstreak boat. Like you, I am often solo on the boat and can't wait to relax while the anchor is coming in or going out. Will file a report in the next week or two after I ...

Bob, the new shop looks great! Much nicer than the setup when you did the bottom of my boat a couple years ago.

Re: Just needs fdinishing
I wrestled around with thoughts of converting to outboards and finishing this one. Good looking boat, but really, screwed on stainless rails? Why?

sealing removable panels
My Almar has a large (3'x4') removeable floor panel in the back deck for accessing the fuel tank. Screwed down with a bunch of phillips head screws, tapped into the below deck structure. What is the best way to seal this deck? I originally tried silicon caulk without good results. Last summer I remo...

Re: rough water crossing
Good call on not going Westward! Late last spring my wife, 2 kids and I left Sequim headed for a friends place on San Juan Island for the weekend. It was right after the I-5 bridge broke and we were worried about traffic so went to Sequim instead of Anacortes to launch. Weather conditions were for e...

Re: VIBRATION / DAMPENING / EAR PLUGS??
I don't know about a dampening pad. On my Almar, it is very quiet in the cabin with the door closed. The only real noise is water on the hull which can be pretty loud if it is rough. Suzuki engine is super quiet.

Re: Tow Rating
Sounds like you already made up your mind - but to add to the others... If you check with Uhaul rentals, they won't rent any trailers to be pulled by an Explorer! I was surprised to read that on their site, but it says alot!

Re: Big Rubber Rub Rails?
I have them on my 22' Almar, supplied as part of the original construction. They are nice when mooring with other boats, but I am thinking of pulling mine off. I can see signs of corrosion underneath (white powder) where the scews are, attaching it to the boat. This winter I am going to get the enti...

Re: paint or not?
Yeah, I have been in contact with Chaps about doing the bottom and we talked about the sides. Just trying to get some time when I don't need the boat and when it can work into his schedule!

paint or not?
When my Almar was built, it had a heavy rubber rub rail along the side about 16" from the gunnel. The previous owner took the rail off, filled the holes with epoxy (on an aluminum boat :banghead: ) and painted it. Now I have some minor corrosion forming under the paint in these areas. I have ne...

Re: Duckworth Offshore
My '92 Almar has fiberglassed wood floors inside the cabin, and in the cuddy area. The boat was used by a Sheriffs department and the hour meter has 5900 hours so it wasn't just kept in a garage somewhere! The internal floors are still in great shape, and being able to easily remove them is great. I...

below deck fish box
I am pulling the original 454 out of my boat and adding a suzuki 300 on an offshore bracket. The engine is all disconnected and ready to come out some evening this week. That will leave a big space under my floor that I want to put to use. Part of it will go for additional fuel but I want to add a f...

Hello to the Alloy folks
Wow, can't believe I just found this site! Joined immediately too, cause it is just what I have been looking for. I am on my fourth alloy boat, one riveted leaker and three welded ones. Started out with an outboard, then two jets (lived in Montana with those boats) and soon I will be back with an ou...
