Re: Johns new Wooldridge 21 pilothouse

Mike thanks for posting the pictures. Been busy and didn't see this thread. What you didn't see that was added on was the boat name. Family named it "Suck It!" from the TV show Psych and has a pineapple after the name which was also part of the show. Grant had never heard of the show but looked it u...

Re: Small cuddy?

Going by Yachtworld, Fortier is rare on the west coast. I would rather stick with a local brand. Also, while I don't object to an inboard in principle, it does add yet another factor to consider and I'm having enough trouble already. ;) Yes agree completely. Although Wooldridge isn't quite "local" ...

Re: Small cuddy?

Fortier does have a rear bulkhead. Just depends on which style you get. Same with other brands. Trust me I looked at a lot of boats. Keep in mind though that they are typically not OB's but rather inboards with a shaft/keel. Not the easiest thing to steer in tight quarters. Also due to weight you wo...

Re: Small cuddy?

Rosborough, believe it or not familiar with them as well. Took a good look at their 22'. Problem is it's an east coast boat. No sales support. Actually built in Nova Scotia if I remember correctly. I love the lines of the downeasters. Looked at several builders. Decent pricing too but in the end the...

Re: Small cuddy?

Actually was thinking of used. Not sure how good the new boats are built these days. Read several things about Sea Sport going downhill before they went belly up during the "Great Recession". That the new models just were not as well built as the older ones. Not sure when they started to build them ...

Re: Small cuddy?

If glass is back in the mix then look at Sea Sport 22'. Nice cabin with dinette and cuddy. Used ones aren't cheap. Might even be able to find one with an OB if that's what you want. Would free up deck space if you went that route. Older than 92 I think are only 8' wide. Also look at Osprey 22'. Or b...

Re: Boat Names

I thought about going with a name that relates to what I do but somehow "Depends" didn't quite cut it. For those who are wondering, I take care of my father full time and those are a "must have". In the end I think I'm going to go with "Thanks Honey!" because I couldn't do what I do w/out my wife an...

Re: Self Bailing

What ever floats your boat Paddler. In the end you're going to do what you want to do. In seems like you've already made up your mind about self bailing decks so why bother to even ask? You talk about keeping water out of the boat in the first place. That's all fine and dandy in theory. Unless you j...

Re: Self Bailing

Well look, you do what you wanna do. Simple as that. 15 years or 30 years it makes no difference how much experience you think you have. You live in UT so that limits the amount of fishing days your ever going to get on the ocean. Just how many hours do those 15 years actually pen out to btw? Accide...

Re: Self Bailing

Well the first time the sheet hits the fan and you don't have one you'll wish you had one. My old Davis had em. Loved em. Needed them in the weather I fished in. Took a green wave over the bow just 200 yards from the mouth of the harbor. Put enough water to have me standing in at least 2-3" of water...

Yes in the tax deduction.. Cooking, sleeping and bathroom facilities. We also were able to deduct the sales tax which is HUGE here in washington at 9.5%. The sales tax deduction saved me from cut the pain on that by about 25% I worked over 700 hours of OT last year, I was facing a large tax income ...

Re: Internal Bracing

The boat with Doug was not going to be custom. Just his standard design. Yeah he is/was busy but he would have been able to start the boat within a few weeks of my visit. If it would have taken place. So being busy wasn't an issue more not being helpful was the problem. Not saying you should go with...

Re: Internal Bracing

The problem with Specmar is that there aren't a lot of boats out there even if it's a "popular" design. I had some lengthy email exchanges with them and talked to a few builders about some of the boats that have been built. Just not a lot of confidence in a design when there's maybe 2-3 out there in...

Re: Small cuddy?

Sorry to hear about your wife. Life is precious. Enjoy everyday and don't have any regrets. It's what my mom used to say.

Hewes won't make the boat w/out the foam in it. I asked.

22' Sea Legend might be worth looking into. 8'9" beam.

Again best of luck.

Re: Small cuddy?

I think an Arima 21' would be light enough to tow but not sure. You can get one with a hard top with Alaskan Bulkhead and cuddy. People that own them love em. Thought about one but in the end it wasn't right for me and how I'd be fishing it. Also no self bailing deck. You have to go up to the 22' fo...

Re: Small cuddy?

What ever boat you go with I strongly recommend you get one with a self bailing deck. You don't want saltwater getting into your bilge if it can be helped. Especially with a boat that has foam in it. As Paddler has an aversion to offshore brackets I have one for foam below decks in a saltwater boat....

Re: Small cuddy?

No passport aye? Thing about going Canuck is that the IF you buy the motors in Canada they won't be warrantied in the States. Silver Streak has a dealer in Bellingham so you can get around that. Kingfisher has distributors so not an issue. Ironwood does not. You'd have to buy the motor(s) and ship t...

Re: Small cuddy?

If I had to wait 13 months to get my boat I almost certainly wouldn't have ordered it. I got in just before the mad rush of orders. I understand they have 70 boats on the board right now. Not sure what I would have bought. Didn't like Raider, Hewescraft or Kingfisher as all 3 have foam. Really liked...

Re: New Build Ideas?

Good luck. Think your under budget. Lee Shore will set ya back almost 100k w/out all the electronics etc and that was for just a 22'. Can't remember if their quote included the motor and trailer. Crozier will be close and you won't run the boat with a 175hp. Armstrong even more expensive. Not sure w...

Re: Small cuddy?

Tim, well I ordered the 20' PH but had some changes done. Not in any order but had it stretched to 21' and had them put in a self bailing deck along with the extended offshore bracket. Probably something you'd not want to have done to keep weight down. Not going to have a front bow rail as I don't t...

Re: Stern Arrangements: What's Best?

With that setup might as well be an I/O IMO. It doesn't seem to be all that much space saving compared to the more common models of full transoms. Personally I'm not crazy about the cut out version. Know of boats that have been swamped/sunk due to waves coming up and over especially on the hook. Lee...
