Re: Patience Saves a Crew

Sad story with a lucky ending.

I guess that notched transom didn't help their cause.

21' Munson on GSA auction

I watched from the sidelines as this Munson CC went for nearly $35K at the government auction yesterday. Nice lines, deep V, hard chine. Former National Park Service boat located in Sedro Woolley, WA. The boat now has a new owner.

Hope the photo comes out...

Re: 26' Eagle Craft twin outboards $99k

Here is another used Eaglecraft. It's 23' and may be too small for your purposes. But definitely towable.

I plan to attend Friday and Saturday. (1/27-8) Should I plan a dogleg to the Pyramid Brewery?

Hard to say which alloy it is made from.

The stringers don't look all that sturdy. I wonder if they are all that flimsy?

Nice looking boat. I'd get it welded. Be surprised if you couldn't get it done for what your budget is.

Re: Best hull for beaching?

You can have boats built with a beaching plate. I think that means that the bow area is reinforced with another alloy plate welded on making the bow doubly thick. My SeaArk has a beaching plate. I know ACB used to offer them either standard or as an option. If one owned a welded aluminum boat couldn...

Re: The R-E-A-D...(or brush up)

I'm going from memory now, but wasn't the issue that sprayed on foam interfered with welding repairs. Did sprayed on foam also trap moisture near the aluminum surface? I seem to remember John advocating for using foam sheets rather than having it sprayed on. I have no first hand information. I leave...

Re: The R-E-A-D...(or brush up)

Jetty: That is a must read: a good primer on the difference between NON ALLOY boat and plate alloy. I would add that John also has some sage advice on the Ironwood boats site for anyone considering a welded aluminum boat. It complements what is said on the RockSalt site. It too is a good read: http:...

Re: SeaArk Commander

Good news on the outboard. As you say, you never know buying sight unseen through an auction. You'll be launching in no time! Even with inspection sometimes the auction administrator will not fire up the engines for you. When I bought my SeaArk I inspected it first. All was well as far as I could te...

Re: Buying a non-production alloy boat

I don't want to get into the question of whether or not a Stabicraft is a boat. My wife might say no because she wants to reduce the number of boats we own. :) I wouldn't put this boat in the same class as Stabi or ACB because it looks like it may ride on its sponsons more like a pontoon boat does. ...

Sjoman: Nice pick up. I wondered who that lovely freshwater boat went to. If it was procured on the GSA auction, I followed it. Considered bidding for a minute, but came to my senses when I remembered I already have a SeaArk. Mine is a 23' VC commander. I like it a lot. It was a good price to pay fo...

Re: Battle of the Kiwis: StabiCraft vs. Surtees

A bit biased, no doubt, but I really like my Stabi-craft. It's only 15' but it handles chop up to 3' -- safe and dry. The sponsons tend to knock the spray down. I love the swishing sound of the spray getting sent off to the sides. Another plus is fishing stability and the boat always points downwind...
