Re: No Haddock left

everybody knows that spot now. Until Saturday we were the only boats there. I guess that's what you get when you post you are killing the haddock and a picture of your boat. :deadhorse: As Mr. Spock said in his death scene said...."Remember!!!" Hind sight is the world's greatest teacher :!:

Re: Haddock Massacre

Capt G, when are you going to start bringing the whales in? Everyone is haddock crazy right now so I give them what they want. Whale cod are starting to come in (big hint)...personally I prefer to eat 10-15lb markets...the big ones (like you showed) make a great photo though. Believe it or not some...

Ya gotta watch that if they go away with that much "meat" they may not show back up for awhile.  If you are cleaning fish aboard, I'm surprised you don't get more shark action. Wish we could. We're not allowed to do anything except gut. These guys eat a lot of fish  ....

Haddock Massacre

Sunday's charter on Stellwagen landed the largest catch of bull haddock that I have ever cut as a mate on any boat or as a Captain of my own. Throw in a dozen nice market cod to 15lbs and it was a day to be remembered. I cut fish all day as the bite was relentless. My four customers left the boat wi...

Season Opener

First charter of the season found good to excellent haddock fishing with over 50 put in the box between 22" and 28". A couple dozen market cod added to the fillet bags which totaled 100lbs (55H/45C) as the guys from downeast Maine headed home after a great day on Stellwagen. All fish taken...

Re: Before the Market tanked.

Mark... I have never tried the Sato crimps...I understand they are very popular on the west coast. The only concern I would have would be if they would damage the rod eyes when passing through. Do you put something over the crimp (shrink wrap) to smooth it? I know if you get even the smallest nick i...

Re: Before the Market tanked.

Those are some great looking setups in the first post  I like the new BX-600 reels but I wish that Accurate had decided to market a wide version as they had originally announced. The 600 actually holds less line than the 665W and line capacity is crucial when target these SBFT here on the ...

Attempted to fish Stellwagen for cod today despite the iffy forecast. About 15 miles offshore I stopped & attempted to fish a spot on the way out. Capt. G I guess you don't know that you are allowed 75 lbs. of cod as well as haddock, Pollock, & wolffish. I'll go for that esp. after sitting ...

Re: Cod are safe today

I heard last week 4 guys came into Gloucester with a boat load of cod. The 4 DMF officers that met them at the ramp were very impressed as they wrote out their tickets and court summons :rotfl:

Price of fillets are pretty high this time of year...think I'll wait until the season opens on the first.
