Re: Rebuild, with Corrosion Spots

Sounds great and love your posts!

I thought the boat was tipped up on the gunnel but now I see tires where the floor hits the freeboard. Much less stress.

This is an aluminum, SS and Brass top quality vise mounted on a slide with quick release lock. It also swivels every 90 degrees so you can adjust it when working from the other side. Love and recommend it!!!

Re: Rebuild, with Corrosion Spots

Hi, Lots of work, man you're NOT lazy!!! Great job!! Love it!! Did you splash the boat and test for leaks before you did all that bottom painting? Are you concerened with internal stresses becasue you welded it all while twisted and stressed from being on it's side? Did you frame the boat up before ...

Re: SWITCH

So I just looked up Duralac and it seams to be a brand name and what you're refering to is anti-sieze compound. That should always be used!

What I accidently found is silicone is bad for aluminum!!!!

Re: SWITCH

Hi Guys,

I'm installing tabs now. I just had them powder coated to hide the SS....except for the zinc areas. I'll post some pics in the "your alloy boat" / "My Edwing 25" post.

Re: SWITCH

I agree, "do the wrong thing" which is let it get wet because that's the catalyst to corrosion. This issues you mention more or less require water to become a problem.

SALT TERMINATOR BY CRC

SALT TERMINATOR is great and I'm actually pictured in the CRC marine catalog. Been using it for years and I see the results when swapping thermostats. I wash my trailer brakes with the stuff as soon as I pull out of the water too.

Kmorin, Excellent, that's exactly what I thought and I'll let everyone know if the powder coat holds up!! And yes, going the "extra mile" is the only way to go!! Until I get the bottom barrier coated and painted, it'll live on the trailer..........I'm almost afraid to wash it or leave it o...

Re: SWITCH

Kmorin, On a different note, let me ask you this question to be sure my technical advise was not slanted. I'm installing SS trim tabs and have gone through great pains to isolate them. I've welded on c channels so the tabs are not against the hull, drilled the mounting holes slightly larger for tole...

Luckily, I have a 3rd switch that grounds a large winch through 28 mounting bolts so a ground is no problem, I got tons of them!!

Re: SWITCH

I'll have to dig deeper into this because I just had my boat worked on by an aluminum boat builder who builds million dollar boats for the government and he spent lots of time with me on this subject. They install military diesels that have starters that don't let that B- into the boat and he picked...

The new Honda 250's do have crank thrust bearing issues.

The 225 is a great motor and 950 hours is nothing.

How could you go out to sea in a boat without a bilge pump!!??!!?? My Edwing has 3 separate hull chambers with a rule 1500-2000 in each plus the stern chamber has an extra 800 to boot. I'll hook alarms to the 3 main pumps before the 2013 season begins. Install your output hose as high as possible an...
