My 21 Edwing is in the water year-round. The key thing is to not use a copper based paint on an aluminum boat. For several years I've used tin based paints like Petit Alumacoat or Micron 33 but those are no longer available due to environmental concerns. Unlike Marty, the Trilux 33 doesn't do very w...

Those are very nice boats and I was surprised as heck that they folded their tent. In actuality many alloy builders have come and gone but their flame-out happened quicker than usual. Will you be selling the 30? What would you like to get instead? Oh, on the continuous welds - not really necessary a...

There are basically two types that can be considered, mig or tig. Mig is the wire feed type machine that was used to build your boat and is better suited to production type welding where you are laying down a good bit of weld. Tig is better suited to small work, is more controllable, etc. You can so...

Speaking of boats with blunt noses . . .
There is a new, small builder hereabouts (Seattle) that is starting to weld up some really cool skiffs, Stonecraft, and they are real brick sh!thouses for their size. These are not pressed & riveted boats, they are the real thing. I really like the top one with the seats that run with the shear ...

Sea chests are typically used on displacement hulls with inboard engines, is that what you have? I can't recall ever seeing one on a planing hull but they might be common. They are definitely built so the top of the chest (where your fittings are) is below the waterline otherwise the fittings would ...

Little kitty anyone?
Thought I would move this boat out of the new member post where it is not likely going to be seen by anyone. It was one of the metal boats at last years Seattle show. Just goes to show the creative possibilities of aluminum since every boat is built by hand (as opposed to being popped out of a mold)...

Re: Aluminum Cat
Do you have any more details on the Cat or happen to remember what they were asking for her. I was on it at the boat show last year and it seemed pretty nice. The only issue I had, is that the cabin was too short to stand up in. It was the first time I had been on cat and it seemed huge for at 18'....

The Yamaha 8 high thrust is what usually gets put on around here (even if your main motor is different) because it has the tilt/trim and lashes up well with remote controls, pilots, etc. Fishing for salmon requires a lot of moving between different areas then quick deployment of the kicker for troll...

OK, lets kick this forum off with a special little number from a few years back. Yes, a BW from the commercial division set up for patrol duties, a diminutive 32' with a pair of 6BT Cummins. Oh, yeah, she's aluminum. Wouldn't you love to fish this? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v234/rsdirect/Boa...

21 workhorse
My 21 Edwing gets used for fishing & skiing but its everyday life is spent as a workboat. Here is a pic of it rigged with a hoist for pulling oyster grow-out trays up onto a wood float where the trays are cleaned off with a pressure washer that is up in my bow. She also does quite a bit of towin...

Lester, How about a general photos forum for posting random pics of alloy boats? Such as . . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v234/rsdirect/Boat%20Stuff/1954Feathercraft.jpg This is a 1954 FeatherCraft - kinda neat and establishes a bit of heritage since most people think welded aluminum boats is...

Hey, a new hangout for metal-holics
Very nice and thanks Welder for the pm. Where do post rants? :D BTW, lots of boats up in my neck of the woods, lots of different styles, sizes, etc. Tons of builders up here too. I'll be going to the Seattle boat show here in a couple of weeks and could get some pics that I would post if'n you guys ...
