Re: Beach toys

G'Day Bob, That is a very cool new cargo body. I spent close to 20 years beach fishing & camping with a Toyota FJ40.............. the box on wheels. Unfortunately, no matter how much PM or cleaning ya do.......................RUST NEVER SLEEPS.     :...

Re: Splashwell or Extended Transom

Hi Scott, Go here: http://www.aluminumalloyboats.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=28 Missed the pics showing the tubes being fitted during the build but they run from the transom to where the forefoot starts to curve up. They are fully welded into the hull framing & provide additional strength. There...

Re: Splashwell or Extended Transom

Pete, answer me a question: I notice the keel flooding holes and figure you've had it both ways, with and without, so is that a design feature that makes the at rest-fishing difference vs. a standard non-ballast monohull? Hi Dawg, Deadrise on "Drumbeat" is 23 Degrees so it is not quite th...

Re: Splashwell or Extended Transom

You want a full height transom? With access steps both side of the engine? With a transom recess designed to handle the engine when it is tilted but with minimum intrusion into the rear deck area? http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m31/peterbo3/IMG_0347Medium.jpg This may help.................. :thu...

Re: Unpainted alloys...black hands?

Another reason some manufacturers insist on painting their boats is to hide the Bondo or other plastic filler they use to hide crappy welds. I have personally seen this on several Kingfisher boats. SB Got a BIG winner right here. And I have never had a problem with the the Black Hand............. a...

Re: 21' Munson on GSA auction

I watched from the sidelines as this Munson CC went for nearly $35K at the government auction yesterday. Nice lines, deep V, hard chine. Former National Park Service boat located in Sedro Woolley, WA. The boat now has a new owner. Hope the photo comes out... munson_21CC.JPG Pic will not appear. :ba...

Re: Aluminum Boat Depreciation

Hi gang, How is the snow & ice & freezing wind??  Pretty warm down this way. But to cut to the chase as George Costanza would say. Plate alloy boats seem to hold their value really well in Australia also. I imagine that the increase in materials & labour costs impact o...

Re: Radar Mount.

Hi 3f8, When you say "channel speeds" do you mean four/six knots or are you up on the plane? The problem with a flat, low mount is loss of return on small, closer targets when planing. A higher mount such as KM has fitted may rectify this to a degree but it will put a lot a stress onto you...

Re: Barnacles!!

The easiest way will be to firstly get your boat off the trailer using old car tyres to both cushion & support it so that one side of the hull bottom is easy to work on. You will need beer, four or five friends who like beer, steaks, some ropes, 4X2s & flat area to do this. You push the hull...

Re: Big sucker

I see just one issue for me with that vessel. First I would like to say that I like the lines a lot & it amazes me that we seem to see a lot nicer IMHO lines in down-under alloy vessels that we see coming out of US builds so far as a generalization. With that said - the join in the sheets towar...

Thanks for the pix & the narrative. Down this end of town the idea of 3/4 or half pod engine mounts went out the window ages ago. :banghead: :banghead: It all sounds good in theory, providing you like wet feet, :deadhorse: :deadhorse: but the only way to go is with a full hull extension. Great t...

OK, boat is full cab as it is designed to sleep four in comfort & has a shower/head. Power will be two 300 or 350 Zukes. Designed for very fast runs to isolated areas for 3-4 days & get back in nearly any weather. It will NOT be hanging around jetties.   :thumb...

Re: Miles Per Hour or Nautical Miles Per Hour?

Way back before GPS, I ran a trawler (shrimper) using radar & charts, plus a very early & expensive Furuno CRT colour sounder inside the Great Barrier Reef. Charts & nautical miles are good buddies, but I can use km & miles. Do it right with North up & knots or paddle a kayak slo...

Re: Aluminum thru hull fitting???

Hi Mike, The water pickup in the grabrail is common down here but I have a half clamshell fitting welded onto the bottom of the hull which was a piece of pipe sliced at 60 deg then welded on. A pipe is then welded onto the inside of the bottom plate & up through the deck to give a watertight con...

Ya gonna need more ponies. A 75 or even 90 running easy will use less fuel than a 50 at WOT which will happen at times. And last forever. I had a 90 on this: http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m31/peterbo3/aihijkmlmlxSmall.jpg I could have run a 115 at times but the 90 4 Stroke replaced the original...
