Re: Advice for Corrosion

I think there is pitting in the fish-box. I do not think there is pitting in the bilge - but please tell me what you think. Yes - the boat is moored all-year in saltwater. When moored it is connected to shore-power with galvanic isolator. I have aluminium anodes and an ElectroGuard Monitor fitted. T...

Re: Advice for Corrosion

Yes - I do have shore power and I do have a galvanic isolator. I also have had the readings on and surrounding my boat tested and everything is at should be. I am surprised by your 'Wow' reaction - are you seeing definite signs of corrosion other than in the fish-box? What I am saying is that I am n...

Advice for Corrosion

I wonder if I may ask advice of the experts here. My boat is a 24’ North River Seahawk Offshore almost four years old. It is bare aluminium but because at the time of order I knew nothing of mill scale corrosion it has not been acid washed. The boat is moored year-round in saltwater. Ever since taki...

Re: Which bottom paint ?

Hi Jerry,

I have just had Chaps do bottom paint on my boat last week viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4826&start=25. An excellent professional job I highly recommend Chaps to you.

Re: My new North River Seahawk Offshore 24'

Well I can report Chaps did a first class job for me with a super quick turnaround. I am very pleased with the job and as to shock-horror on presentation of the bill, Chaps invoice was exactly as estimated. Mind you I had sent him a message the previous afternoon as to the nature of ‘Hell-Fir...

Its actually the third coat of epoxy. Please tell me you wanted black anti-foul on the bottom Tony 'cause that's what it is this morning! (the 1st pic is the bottom after sandblasting, 2nd pic is first coat of epoxy, 3rd pic is third coat of epoxy) Do not worry - black and everything looks to be ju...

How to remove thru-hull transducer from aluminium boat?

I would like to change the thru-hull transducers in my boat which were dealer installed some eighteen months ago using Sika adhesive. The intention is for the transducers to be re-used so it is not wanted to destroy them. I would be grateful for advice on how to go about this. Removing the hull nut ...

Re: Here we go, the build... FINALLY Armstrong 28'

For most of us that 2.0 MPG on a boat that size would be an incredible mile stone. Looks like pretty descent numbers all around. I'll be happy with my new build if I can muster 1.5 As long as I 'behave myself' I can generally maintain 2 mpg and mostly a little more 2.10-2.15 mpg. If I open up beyon...

Re: My new North River Seahawk Offshore 24'

Thank you for the interest. Well I am very, very pleased with my boat. The issues I have had have been frustrating and would not have been so long standing if I were located closer to the dealer and/or North River. Or, be more competent or confident in fixing these issues myself! The hydraulic leaks...

While I am very pleased with my boat and become more pleased the more I use it, I still am plagued with some issues. The steering hydraulics still leak a little and North River has sent a spare fitting. I am still getting water in the bilge - I think through the Freeman hatch. Both items will be loo...

Thank you for this clarification; I will admit that I had a real 'oh what have I done' panic developing over this today. Re: Salt Away has stained my boat

Salt Away is a mild acid, if you use it all the time on your bare hull you are likely slowly stripping the oxidation that you are attempting to encourage. The area where you didn't rinse well may be etched a bit, maybe not. I'd treat the hull with a strong enough solution of aluminum brightener to ...
