IW, I guess I don't understand how a watertight bulkhead works. If a chamber is watertight and doesn't have a vent, how can it be pumped out? If it can't be pumped out, how do you remove condensation, how do you know if its leaking? How do you test it? How do you keep hot air from expanding the cham...

There are about 4 rules you have to follow when placing them on the tramsom. 1. Go as deep as possible as bubble sucked in at the bow will move away from the deeper water pressure. Placing transducers is shallow water out near the outer chines seldom proves successfull except on very slow boats. 2. ...

Does paying for foam buy offshore security?
Underdeck Foams I like the idea of an unsinkable boat, but do not think that shooting foam underdecks will really keep the boat upright or save it and its passengers in a fire or cold water. It is also fairly expensive, retains water/gas unless it is reopend to create drain passages. It also prevent...

Underdeck questions
I have some general questions, that might make individual threads on there own, but I would like to star lumping some together. Underdeck Ventilation Is it not more desirable for air to enter the underdeck area near the bow to ventilate the underdeck area to remove accumulated fuel fumes, evaporate ...

I am looking for a how to manual, applied to aluminum boats in general. I know what general systems are required, but am looking for the code that specs the materials for the main electrical systems, and backups. Since the coast gaurd is buying aluminum boats, I would think that they might have some...

Isolators and grounds-what is code?
What type of isolation materias and be used to isolate SS rod holders and SS fasteners from aluminum hulls? Is the negative post on the battery the main gound for the entire DC circuitry on an aluminum boat? How do you isolate the hull against AC wiring circuits? What is the ground, the hull? Are po...

Can you back up your systems if one set of zincs fail?

Can I assume that air should be blown into hatches, and that the hatches should stay uncovered prior to and during all wiring and welding jobs? What happens if a wire sparks under decks while underway? Couldn't riser pipes with vents be placed at either ends to force air under decks while under way ...

That weld looks pretty good to me. I see a lot of variations in price on these units running from $4-$6K new which I imagine depends on the guns and wire feeders. Any suggestions as to which feeder is best for a shop that will use it a lot, and if the pulsed machine really runs cool enough to use th...

Ed Wing in Washinton used to make a 21 and there are also kit boats from the southern cross. These are the best I've seen.

Just wondered if you have ever experimented with the auto fill ballast systems to help eliminate roll on deeper dead rise hulls that is popular on the Bar Crusher and Fisher Al monos being produced in Australia?
