I have fished shallow and deep along the California and Baha coast with every jig I have ever heard good things about. IMHO the knife jigs have a definate place and that is fishing 150 ft or deeper with the newer all metal reels we all know and love. It allows you to use a smaller but powerfull reel...

Thanks Skypoke, Great info. that confirms my experience with Mono vs Cat in NON ALLOY. All things being equal, particularly cost, I would go cat in a heartbeat. Unfortunately the cats cost more for a variety of reasons. For all the reasons people on this forum understand I am now only shopping alloy...

Cleaning a dirty alloy hull.

How hard is it to get a high quality marine aluminum hull that is 3 to5 years old looking new? Hull is in great shape just dirty and a little oxidized. No paint to deal with. Lots of rails and rocket launchers. Want to blind the entire marina on a sunny day  . Alternatively how much does it cos...

The lower cost of 5052 explains why the builder went with this alloy for less critical areas. If all checks out with the sea trial will need a good person for a survey. BlackLab Marine can you help with that?? Yikes hijacked my own thread

compatability of different marine grade alloys.

I am interested in both the general compatability of marine alloys when welded and specificly interested in 5052 to 5086. The specific interest is because of a boat I looked at today. Very nicely designed 28' x 9'6" monohull with 5/16th" 5086 hull bottom and 3/16th" 5052 sides. Workma...

I am planning a vacation from my home in Southern Cal to the pacific northwest this spring to view and seatrial a few monos and cats all in the 25 to 30' range. Wan...

Monohull vs Cat????

I have heard this hashed out a whole lot of times with NON ALLOY but thought it might still be usefull asking this same question for alloy examples. My bias is towards a Cat because of thier superior ability to handle wind chop (that hurts my back), lateral stability during drifts and fuel economy i...

Hi Dave, I am another Socal alloy enthusiast waiting to get my first alloy. Went to Fred Hall friday. Amoung the admittedly few alloy representatives at the show that Pacific 23' was the gem. The quality of workmanship was so clearly head and shoulders above the other builders. The layout of the lar...

Thanks for your wisdom Jay. Searching the web I am finding almost no info on these drives except on boats made for speed. Interestingly a couple of the builders in the pacific Northwest report that many of thier new Alloy comercial fishing boats are employing Arneson drives. I am not sure if this is...

Arneson surface drives

May take a look at a cat with Arneson surface drives. I know nothing about them other than thier website claims. Do they make sense on a boat used mainly as a fishing platform? Are thier claims of economy and durability accurate? Thanks for your knowledgable input in advance.

Cat

Your Cat is basicly exactly what I want in terms of size and configuration. I am jelous, in a good way. Would love to hear some performance numbers for that kitty. Anything you have in terms of #s and the way she handles different adverse sea conditions. Great job on putting her to her intended purp...

Time to say hello

Hi, I am Mike from Orange county California. Currently my fishing machine is a Parker 2120. Nice boat but I have a case of 2 foot or more itis. Want to step up to a 25-30' boat with wide beam that will allow me to safely and comfortably fish well offshore--50 plus miles. This would include overnite ...
