One of the odd things about aluminum boats that I've noticed is that when you go to sell them the year it was built is hardly ever an issue or a major factor in determining its value. Take this ad on my local craigs list: http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/boa/580585678.html http://images.craigslist....

Here's a project . . .
We see these around here from time to time, unfinished alloy hulls. Given the high price of aluminum these days there is no way you could duplicate the material in this boat for what he is asking. 36x12, big boat. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/boa/581065579.html http://images.craigslist.org/0102...

Nice looking jacks. I wasn't that thrilled with the electrics myself but if they worked this long then I guess they did OK. Hey, say hi to Mike and ask him for me why he points at all the fish? Nice looking kings you guys are getting down there too. Oh yeah, there is a forum further down to post pho...

Oh man you are breakin' my heart . . . its like seeing an old girlfriend sashaying down the street on someone else's arm. No on the big cat . . . I've leveraged my way onto some bigger boats OBOP (owned by other people) when I want to go offshore or up to Alaska so I'm stickin' with my small boats. ...

Another reason to own aluminum and not glass
I use my 21 Edwing mainly for helping out our local harbormaster 'cause she's desk bound alot and they haven't bought her a decent boat for the kind of tasks that come up. Early yesterday morning a big Bayliner erupted into flames in our main harbor. Luckily a tug with a firefighting nozzle (monitor...

Fishing steelies from alloy sleds
Ok, keeping things on topic here, a couple of pics from fishing steelhead yesterday in Washington State in a specialized craft we call "sleds". Basically heavily built flatbottomed alloy boats and powered with jet impeller lower units fitted to modern outboard motors so you can run in very...

That weld looks pretty good to me. I see a lot of variations in price on these units running from $4-$6K new which I imagine depends on the guns and wire feeders. Any suggestions as to which feeder is best for a shop that will use it a lot, and if the pulsed machine really runs cool enough to use t...

What's all that whining I'm hearing from down there in paradise? I'm fishin' Monday for steelhead on one of the local rivers. It'll be raining and about 33°f but with the wind it'll feel about 20°. We've got gauges on the rivers to let us know how high the flow is running so we can pick our days as ...

We have 5 300 amp Miller migs at the shop, but no spool gun. I was wondering if the newer square wave mig machines were worth the investment and if the python gun was the way to go. Bull, You mean pulsed mig? They are pretty cool. I've got a Lincoln PM350 that can weld .063 as easily as .250 with m...

My neighbor's business partner is just finishing a build on a 70'x20' aluminum cat up here in AK. It will be powered by twin 1001 HP CAT diesels pushing hamilton jets. I do not have any pictures, but it is HUGE! Total build price is about $2.2 million. Wish I had that kind of disposable income. Loo...
