Re: Unintentional Ground Returns to Hull?

The electrons will always flow via the path of least resistance. We have an obvious difference of opinion here. With multiple paths to a common ground, the ground return current will be divided between multiple return paths, inversely-proportionally to their resistance. To complicate the situation,...

Re: Unintentional Ground Returns to Hull?

The only two items that I see this on are my radar and my VHF radios. I do know for a fact that they are chassis grounded. I did not chassis ground any of my navigation equipment (Furuno has the provision on most the system components. There is only ONE bond to my hull. The DC system and AC system a...

Re: WTB 7500 lb capacity boat trailer

Howard, who is we? Will it be a kit or are you building from scratch? I met a CAD guru on BD. I have looked at buying a trailer locally, shipping a trailer from Florida. The prices were insane and I wasn't sure what I was getting. Even without the drawings, I figured how hard could it be. All of th...

Come check out the 22' swiftsure . It is down at the docks in Port Angeles. We can setup a test drive if you would like  What about joy rides for advertising your Craigslist post? Just kidding! The PA contingent of Armstrong, Crozier and Lee Shore are all great builders. I saw a 22' Crozi...

Here are two JPEGs, I will email the Sketchup file, 30'x 8"x5" I beams and I believe 4"x3" cross member. I wouldn't go with straight cross members, this was just to learn Sketchup

Re: Anyone build a trailer?

Chtucker, do you want a trailer SkUP tutorial? I'll put one up for your if that is helpful ?.... start with main beams, then add some 'stuff'? I've got time if you've got the interest....but if my posts (images of the steps) are not of any use, I won't take time. Any interface will take some effort...

Re: Anyone build a trailer?

Here is an interesting take on bolting vs welding cross members McClain Trailers fields a lot of questions: - Why doesn't McClain Trailers weld their cross members onto the I-Beams? Below is a good example why McClain has chosen to bolt their cross member onto the I-Beam. Another reason bolting the ...

Re: Anyone build a trailer?

Struggling with Sketchup.. was able to import the I beams and rotate them around, get them parallel and spaced properly.. It is something I wish I could master quicker. I will keep plugging away.

Kevin, I think you were referring ReelSongs MYCO trailer. Here are some images of their trailers:

Re: Anyone build a trailer?

Chtucker, seems like you'd be in the absolute middle aluminum supply-land there in the Redmond WA area? Ak. Copper and Brass is a major supplier, and may even have some "trailer beam" extrusions. Just a little background for your consideration- not trying to say which way to go in your de...

Re: Anyone build a trailer?

Seriously doesn't look that hard..R&D (Ripoff and Duplicate as mister Goat would say) a few 15-18k trailers. I have the CG and measurements from Armstrong for my axle placement.

Anyone build a trailer?

I have been pricing aluminum I beam trailers. Locally built, for what I want is insane $$$. With the same specifications, a trailer built in Florida is 40-50% less. I have looked into shipping from Florida and it still would be cheaper. But..... I am not going to take a whole boat build, but a trail...

Kevin, there are many more pictures on Yachtworld.
Chad Crozier learned the trade at Armstrong. That is why there is such a design similarity. I am curious to know what you didn't like as well. It looks like a really nice salmon/sound boat

Without ever seeing a Bayweld in person, but looking at your pictures and build story, I think they are second to none!

Unbelievable attention to detail and a stout build for sure.

Re: Seattle area cnc cutting/aluminum supplier?

When I looked into it, it was covered with a legal agreement and handshake that the design was copyrighted. Re: A question for you all.

You are describing a downeast style boat in my mind. http://www.wesmac.com/Inventory/Category/1006/ Cruises at 15-20 knots. Big industrial style diesel inboard. Don't know of any built out of aluminum. Fuel cost is the least of your worries when buying a boat. If I put a single 350hp outboard on my ...

Re: Just needs fdinishing

I do like the boat as well.. Unsure about if aluminum would be heavier than wood or other materials. I just am recalling the head door on the Aerohead. As for diesel inboards... Anything but a sterndrive would be fine by me. It is just a difficult situation. Not many would take this project on thems...

Re: Just needs fdinishing

Conrad Yachts is Jarek Kronois the designer of the Aerohead and Xtaero boats. I don't know who welded the boat or if this was an Aerohead hull that has been sitting. I didn't think there was anymore of those around. Other than the sterndrive I really like the Aerohead. I like that the interior is al...
