Thanks for the post, Chaps. I got excited when I saw that 15K trailer. That is a hi-tech, and he has two of them. The only thing is that it has surge brakes, which I really don't want on a boat this big. One option would be to convert it to electric over hydraulic, either there or when I get it to A...

They are 'working on it' and have been for several weeks. He is looking to combine it with another shipment. If this cannot be done, I think it would be around $3K to ship, which adds 30% on the price of the trailer. I just posted on Uship.com today, and posted on THT as well. Hopefully someone that...

Thanks for the feedback, guys. The boat I am getting is a 31' Seawolf, and I will need a 15K gross trailer for this, since it is around 12K full of fuel and water. The manufacture is a dealer for Easyloader, but I have heard too many negative comments on this to want to go this way. There is a Hi-te...

Shipping a trailer from FL to WA

Ok, so now I need an aluminum trailer for my aluminum boat they are buildgin for me in WA. My two top choices are Rolls Axle and Hi_tech (in that order) both out of Florida. I need the trailer in WA by year end, but I would take it there anytime from now on if that works. Any suggestions on how to s...

Bottom Paint on Aluminum Boats

What do you guys think about bottom paint on aluminum boats? My Keani River boat sits in the fresh water all summer long, and I just pressure wash it off a few times, and use some acid cleaner on occasion (I forget what the chemical is, but it is clear and diluted with water). My new boat will be 31...

SB, Thanks for the details on the trailer and hitch. I have a GM too, and I have heard that the WD hitch is the way to go. I will look into the ones you got. Where did you purchase them from? As for the trailer, I am looking at a High-Tech trailer out of Panama Florida, which I have a quote for one ...

Update?

Sharkbait,

Do you have an update for us on your boat? Did you get it up to AK yet, and what do you think about it now that you (presumably) have some hours on it?

Comments on a jet unit

Marty, Thanks for the post on your experiences with your volvo penta. I have settled into this decision as well. The only remaining thing is if I go with one or two ( a bigger boat with twins). As for your comments about jet drives, my current boat is a 24' Duchworth alumunum with a 460ci gas motor,...

I had heard somewhere not to use wire brushes on Zincs, but instead to use sandpaper because the wire brush has some negative effect on the metal. Can anyone comment on if this is true or not? I guess it is safer just to use sandpaper, but I am curious if anyone knows the science behind this, if the...

Yes, Suzuki is an option. It seems like 90% of the outboards I see on boats here are Yamaha though. I checked on the dealers, and there are two in town, one of which is owned by a guy I have known for years, so I will have to give him a call. Since the boat is being built in Washington, the motors w...

I would not do a single F350, since I think it would be under powered. The diesel option is 370 HP, but it is 650 ft lbs of torque. I have not found any towque ratings for the Yamaha outboards, but I assume that they are around the HP rating, at best. With the Diesel inboard I would get a 9.9 high t...

The volvo penta outdrive will not tip out of the water, and the water here is quite cold year round, so this is a definate advantage of the outboards. I run shrimp pots so there is the risk of tangling a line in the prop. I sometimes pull pots by myself, so this is a real risk of running over the li...

Diesel in the cold

The diesel works fine in the cold. I will run the boat in the summer only, but others run diesel trucks at -50F. There are two grades of diesel, summer and winter. The winter diesel has additives that make it so it will not gel in cold weather. The tradeoff is that you get lower mileage with it for ...

Twin Yamaha 225’s vs. Volvo Penta D6-370

I recently demo’ed a SeaWolf 30’ (www.seawolfmarine.com), and am considering getting one built. They have two power options, both costing the same amount, a Volvo Penta D6-370 or twin Yamaha 225’s. It seems like the majority of the boats up here in Alaska have outboards. I am interested in any opini...

I'm a couple of steps behind you

Shark bait, I live in Anchorage, and have been looking at boats with the same basic specs as you for some time. I like aluminum, but want a really nice interior too. I am zeroing in on a Seawolf 30, although I think either choice as a good one for our uses. My question is why did you choose outboard...

I'll be selling, but not this summer

Lester, I will be selling the Duckworth. I seem to like to spend more time in the ocean than the rivers these days, plus I have a cabin on the Kenai river and a 20 ft alumaweld for that (there is a 50hp limit there). The Duckworth would be the perfect boat for that, but they outlawed the big jets on...

New to thir forum

Case, I was the one asking about your transducer, but it was on another forum. Luckey I found you here, the pics help out a lot. The pic below is of my current boat, but I am on a list for a Seawolf, which is the same maker as Case's boat. I can either have a single D6-370 Volvo Diesel or twin Yamah...
