Re: Stupid Electronics Installation

My boat was factory painted but using PPG 2K formula with tints and I have a sample to reproduce so almost as easy as color matching a vehicle repair.

Stupid Electronics Installation

The company that installed my electronics really screwed up with mounting hardware to my boat... The spot light installed on the roof of the boat was incorrectly sealed and leaked from the first day. Corrosion set in so I pulled the light off, had the roof repaired and repainted. So checking out my ...

Re: Bottom Cleaning

I use a bottom liner and my hull is completely free of growth and slime. The boat is out of the water this week getting the engines serviced. Of course the bottom liner is covered in growth.

Being eaten by Worms!

A number of times I have anchored and slept on the boat I can hear many "tick tick ticks" through the hull almost like the sound of a vehicle engine cooling down. This can go on all night long. last night I was 6' off a mud bottom and I could hear the "tick tick tick" all night l...

Re: Emergency Tow Line

Another small rescue this evening but lesson learned. A skiff coming at me in the dark on the wrong side of the channel with no nav lights on. He did not attempt to alter course so I threw my boat in reverse to avoid and as he came up along side me, I casually asked if he had any nav lights? He repl...

Re: Stability and dampening roll

I saw the same pictures - I believe the way the tubes function is they are open at the water line and as the boat starts to rock, water will drain in and out of each tube. The draining and filling of each tube would dampen boat roll. A simple system but I believe hard to retrofit and difficult to ge...

Protecting my bilge

I want to "paint" my bilge to give protection against standing water. I have the good stuff - PPG Amercoat 235 Multi-Purpose Epoxy Coating but I need to prep the surface. An aircraft mechanic said they use Zinc Chromate whereas the Amercoat 235 recommend two products to prep and clean the ...

Re: Emergency Tow Line

I have a second anchor I deploy from the stern when scuba diving. The anchor has 150' of 3/4" line which I use as an emergency tow rope. Of the two rescues/tows I have been involved with - They were difficult. Both times it was boats being blown into a breakwater wall after loss of power. It ha...

Beautiful Vessel! I was coveting your build photos last year. Dave Thanks Dave - The boat has worked out extremely good for my family. More importantly, my wife Kim is very happy with it and is actively planning big trips for it. It looks like we are going to do a trip from San Francisco down to Re...

Re: Hey, anyone seen an aluminum boat around here?

Thanks Lester... Stabicraft 829 - Officially 27' but 31' tip to tip. 2 x 150HP using Honda 4 Strokes. 2 x 250L = 500L/137G total. On a flat lake 38MPH, Ocean with wind chop 35MPH/6000RPM top speed. Bump up to 2 x 200HP for more MPH. 2MPG is its sweet spot at around 20MPH giving 250 Mile+ range. Mine...

I have an unpressurized alcohol stove - Works very well and alcohol in each burner lasts for many trips.

Here's a link as an example but I need to check out who make my stove:

Re: Anyone use Antifouling Bags?

Bottomliner is commonly used here. http://www.bottomliner.com/ Close the floating back gate and add a little fresh water and chlorine. Latest version has a back gate which is inflatable/deflatable. A valve to release the air and the back sinks. A small foot pump will raise the back gate. The idea is...
