The crimps are soft aluminum and they are reporting no damage from them.
Follow the directions, use the eye loop to check your crimp job and you should be good to go.

Dave, It happens on automobiles all the time that have cast aluminum heads, and they don't have to deal with moisture. Dry threads in aluminum(no lubrication) can tend to tear some, especially when subjected to heat(like in a head) The best thing to try to do at this point is to try to get some pene...

calstabi, I asked a question over on the iboats board in regards to your seized sparkplug and got this answer: PB Blaster - give it a spray every day for three or four days, not a lot, just enough to coat the base of the plug. Use a real plug wrench, not one of those aluminum things - after every s...

Merlin, The boat is coming together nicely You can maybe cut a clearance hole in the step to allow the top of the trim cylinder to pass through and bolt down and move the left brace to the top side of the step which will allow you to bolt the tab in place. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc255/sd...

I've heard of serves unraveling which leads to failure. You ever seen the use of Sato aluminum crimp kits? http://satocrimpandwinder.com/procrimpkit.htm There are many guys using spectra to mono or fluoro to catch big tuna without very many issues. Good luck and I hope that doesn't happen again. Scott

Is your corrosion occurring on the back of the transom or along the sides where the foam is sprayed in? BTW, Use caution if you weld on top of the foam because there may be a chance of it catching fire. Maybe some else can chime in on what to do when there is flammable material on the opposite side ...

Hi agravation, The corrosion that you are getting in you transom is pretty common on thin alloy boats that have a wood transom with a skin of aluminum on the outside. I believe what is happening is there is corrosion from the inside(between the wood and aluminum) working it's way out in different sp...
