Try looking for a local truck supply. The acid etch is used to clean the aluminum dump trucks. We buy it here in NY for $20/ gallon.

Re: Thomas Garvey
Tom retired in 2003. The early models of these Garvey"s are now about 40 years old. They started out as a cheap durable boat for the local clam diggers. Most had 3/16 bottoms and wooden deck to keep the cost low. As they evolved they got 1/4 bottoms and welded aluminum decks, which made them mor...

Re: 26' Thomas marine
I worked at Thomas Marine when this boat was built. I kind of remember the boat but not the console. I would bet that the boat is selling for more than it was built for new. The hull is a a modified twist bottom. Shallow deadrise in the stern, makes for a very stable platform. Tom Carney retired in ...

aluminumizing a non alloy boat
I can't always sell someone a new aluminum boat ,but we can make there non-alloy one more functional. For what the customer end up paying for this "custom clam boat ,we could have built him a nice alloy one.

You could take the ferry over to Long Island and talk to Sound Marine about a custom aluminum boat.

Our 29 RockSalt boat was sold to a local oyster diver, The boat and customer is shown about 6:30 min in. Well done video, it would have been nice if there was more boat.

Re: Workskiff for Auction in NY
So it looks like this turned into a good buy for someone. Our local Yamaha dealer called and asked if we could raise the transom 5". The 90 Honda which was on the boat was removed and a used 250hp Yamaha 4 stroke was installed. I think its a little heavy and over-kill. I never got to meet the n...

life of pooh and baby bear
A strange subject line for AAB. Shortly after Sound Marine ventured out on it own we built one of our earlier flat bottom work boats for a local dredge company. The owner of Disch Construction wanted a 20' model with a little extra rubber here and there. The other requirement was it need to be paint...

we have been getting .55/lb for scrap. The bad news is it went up to .60/lb. This means that it's only a matter of time before the supplier raises the prices.

Re: Anchors
Aluminum anchors are a preference. The vinyl coats chain lasts a few years. I use stainless hardware when possible. I don't think a zinc would solve any problems. First the anchor isn't in the water that long. Its a small mass a number of feet away from the boat. The bottom of the boat should be bar...

No the chain wouldn't be aluminum, but a nice length of vinyl chain works well.

Somebody should head down and visit Dave. There is a great seafood place were he launches the boat. They'll cook up your fish or make you a killer oyster poor boy.Challenge wrote:Nice Fish, Sad Day.... Time to head south and see Jettywolf and the MissHayden!

Re: Aluminum Skiff Build
I guess then first thing that needs to be defined is "what is considered overly costly to build". Your asking for a pretty detailed list of options, all of which needs to figured in to the price. The walkable deck means that your looking for a watertight deck. This could easily add 500+ lb...

we can do something like this, with a sharper bow. 200hp would push it along nicely.
