Re: Stray current/grounding question

There are a few negative bus bars on the boat none are grounded to to the hull. I don't know "exact" configuration, but there is a single green wrapped in yellow tape wire from a main negative bus bar to the hull. At that same point is a ground, green wrapped with yellow tape wire from my ...

Re: Stray current/grounding question

That is correct, the LEDs which require very very very little current are being back fed from the radios capacitors after turning off the the breakers and the radios... Has to be in a certain order, turn off radio THEN the breaker. There is no continuity across the breaker when off, just the pin hea...

Stray current/grounding question

Today I noticed an issue on my Armstrong that had me mildly concerned at first. I have a Blue Seas breaker panel for my 12Vdc equipment. The panel has pin head size LEDs to indicate on. I have two VHF radios. They are both wired into isolated ground bus bars that are from the factory. There is (as t...

Re: Big new SAFE boat

That popped up on my Facebook page... It looks HUGE! Weird, I was talking with someone last week who said Safeboat was really slow, only working 4 day work weeks.... Then over the last few days I heard radio ads looking for qualified welders. I work on some of the electronics on some of their boats....

Re: Just got my insurance quote from ACE

Are you saying it is too high??? Sure there might be insurance for $100-3000 cheaper, but I can without a doubt say the insurance you get from Geico/Progressive/Boat US wont cover you as well. Another factor is that your navigation area is obviously the pacific ocean... Much higher risk than Lake Po...

Re: Is this fixable and what should it cost

It is a proper yacht insurance company that is well respected brokered by an agency that exclusively sells marine insurance. I think they did the right thing to decline the claim. The cost estimate was excessive to say the least. Therefore, I don't feel the name is important right now. It is not Boa...

Re: Is this fixable and what should it cost

I don't think the extrusion will hold air. The plastic cleats would probably pop out.

I asked him to deal with the insurance company and to get a second estimate...

We will see what happens

Re: Is this fixable and what should it cost

I don't really want to figure out maritime law for something as simple as two guys bringing their boats together to raft at very very slow speed so that their families could enjoy a day together.... That being said, the guy sitting at the helm of the smaller boat could have avoided this very easily ...

Re: Is this fixable and what should it cost

The top rail extrusion from now to transom was quoted as $178, the decal at $450 and the rest was labor, paint and welding.

No the is no other damage, and yes his wife has told him it better look new.

I guess that means a new boat.

Is this fixable and what should it cost

Lowe riveted aluminum boat. NO damage to hull sides, just the welded on gunwale extrusion that is painted. Quote for the part was $178.00... Total repair cost was estimated at $11,790 with sale tax. New boat is probably $15k INCLUDING THE MOTOR.

This is a friends boat.

Are you sure there is foam?

I have been watching that boat for sale.. I say you got a great deal/boat.

Not much change to their hull shapes over the years, just them different forward pilothouse windows.

That boat should fly with the 225s!
