Re: Stretching a SAFEBoat

So was that a 25 footer? How much are you adding? I've been working on a few of those as they are made near me and quite a few are in private hands now as the agencies that bought them originally are starting to surplus them out.

Re: Buiding an aluminum seine skiff

I'm not surprised a company that poured a ton of time and money into developing a good design would be reluctant to sell a kit or cut file for their skiff (that is until they heard an offer high enough to make it worth their while).

Merry Christmas to all here at AAB!

Hey Bob, why stretch a Safe Boat? Those things are complicated a well as having to come up with a longer foam collar would be an issue.

Re: anode test

Welding corrosion pits in hull plating is a fools errand. The corrosion runs through the core of the plate for considerable distance from each pit. The torch just blows out the degraded metal and the pits turn into holes that go right through into the bilge. Sandblast and fill the pits with epoxy to...

Re: Time for virgin boat and bottom paint

Generally, long term success when it comes to bottom paint on any boat is all about how the hull is prepped. Get that right and then get a good primer system on that well prepped hull. After that most any bottom paint has a good chance of adhering well and keeping growth off. Then when the time come...

Re: Time for virgin boat and bottom paint

No need to acid etch if you blast IMO

Flexdel Armor gets HARD and keeps growth off. I've switched from Vivid. Good paint but sloughs too much and too expensive.

They are all good engines, I'd go out and check the dealer service departments and see who has their act together

Re: Need help from the gurus...

You're not likely to encounter corrosion pitting on the hull given you are all fresh water. I'd look to see what the wiring looks like, is it butchered? Look in all the hatches and behind the helm for signs of poorly done projects or repairs. Crawl under boat and look at the entire hull to see if it...

Re: Need help from the gurus...

I don't see major dents in the pics, just some love bumps. The blue paint would probably come off with a chemical paint stripper but unless it is peeling I'd just give it a light sanding and repaint. The other boat is way better cosmetically and if that ranks pretty high with you then that might be ...

That Merc might surprise you, give you a year or two of service. Hire a mechanic to see if and how well it runs before you buy it.

Re: Need help from the gurus...

The Almar is a little rough but for 3k its a steal IMO. Why a 135 etec? Do you already own it? Is the existing engine broken?

Re: Need help from the gurus...

They are such different boats . . . I'd rather own the Almar with a new outboard engine for the $2500 premium than a V8 Jet anything but the choice has more to do with where you really plan to do your boating.

Keeps light rain off the windshield, reduces glare in many situations and provides overhead room to mount electronics (and it looks shippy)

Get a Whale Gulper pump. No macerator head to get screwed up and can be mounted higher than fish boxes. Google it & watch the vids
