You could check withe the harbormaster (Capt. SAl) in New Rochelle NY. He should be able to point you in the right direction.Basically clean /profile the surface ,a quick acid ,and a few coats of epoxy and a non copper bottom paint.

Thomas Marine:End of an Era!
It is sad day in the aluminum boat building world. Thomas Carney the owner, designer and master craftsman at Thomas Marine was laid to rest today. Tom was my mentor, everything I do today is base on the principles I learn working with him. He took the time to teach me to step back and look. My guys ...

We all surf the internet looking for small aluminum boat designs. A customer from St Thomas asked us to come up with something that was 12'. The problem in ST Thomas is anything over can not tie up at the free dingy docks. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, I recommended he look at Metalboat kits 12...

not the most reliable engine Yamaha built. One we put on blew a powerhead @162 hours. Flywheels have to be changed every 350 hr. They have been know to suck the oil out of the lower units, but when tested they don't leak. They V-6 300 is bullet proof.

Re: New unproven design question
with all of the money and work that is required to build a custom boat , why would you want to be the first one to build a new design. There are lots of designs on there website, but no pictures of real built aluminum boats.

the question not how much, but how much to made it work on my boat. Those are custom made aluminum framed window , there are 10 windows. the seller also claims that its 6061 aluminum. One would expect this to be made out of a 5000 series aluminum. There is a fair amount of work to build something lik...

Kevin,
I'm shocked no one commented on this stuff. This stuff sounds like a great solution to internal corrosion. Looking forward to using Corrosion X on the customers boat this fall.

Re: Electrolysis on Pacific Skiff 22 DV
I just saw the same problem on a similarly constructed boat. The corrosion was from the inside. The boat was trailered on a roller style trailer so wooden bunks was not an issue. The boat is ten years old and has 560 hrs on it original engine. There is very little access to the inside of the boat.Wh...

Re: Ranger 8 Welder/Generator?
A miller syncrowave is a transformer type machine it draws a 100amp to get the 250amp ac you need to weld 1/4" aluminum. Your ranger 8 will only put out 30 some old amps. A 300 amp inverter style machine will only draw 35-40 amps to get the same 250amp AC. There is no easy/cheap way.

Re: Ranger 8 Welder/Generator?
sure, look for a used miller dynasty 300. draws a max of 40amps (not sure exactly without looking at my machine ). It has a high freq, you can also increase the frequency which blasts through the anodizing . You might have less money into it than a new high freq box. I'm not a Lincoln guy but a Mill...

you may find that it is cheaper to plug and inverter/tig machine into this and just use it as a generator .

I probably didn't work there when this one was built, it doesn't look familiar. I worked there from the early 90's. Do you know who the original owner was? Looks like it needs a good blasting, engine looks original. We redo older aluminum boats. If you sell it and the new owner is looking for someon...
