hello from Oregon

#1

Post by no excuses »

Just checking in from Oregon, I have a 24' Maxxum "North River" Seahawk, it has a 300hp Suzuki outboard and a 9.9 zuki kicker. I have only had this boat since last Feb. and made a lot of changes to her. Took her out on 5 Tuna runs and lots of other local fishing and diving trips. Have enjoyed the pics and threads that I have read so far while lurking here.

Have done pretty well, This was my first year for Tuna, first trip we caught 11, next day was 3. Next two trips we were skunked and last trip had installed a live well and with live bait we caught 20 and probably lost that many. Have also caught a few sturgeon, as well as a few salmon in the Columbia river.

She runs right around 52-54 MPH loaded light, I am running a 15"/22p prop and can only get around 55-5600 rpm's. I plan on getting a 16"/18p prop for it to bump up the rpm's to were they should be, 6000-6300 rpm's. That will help it when loaded for diving/tuna coming out of the hole and climbing the back side of a swell. It does pretty good but it can ge better, I was spoiled by my last boat. It was a 5.4m Avon RIB (600# hull weight) with a 90hp yami two stroke. Top speed on it was only 42mph but it would just jump out of the hole and run up to 6000rpm like it should have.
