G'day from Aus

#1

Post by johncar »

Hello, nice to find this Ally boat forum, I didn't know that ally boats were popular in the US, thought they were just an Aussie/New Zealand thing, but I see you have some great looking craft over there.
My boat is a Fisher 660 Maxi (22') with a DF250 Suzuki on the back and setup for family overnighters and offshore fishing. Just owned it for a few months now and it seems a great rig, very happpy with it. Owned plenty GRP boats over my life but this is my first Plate Ally boat so getting used to the differences still.
Anyway I hope to be able to participate here from time to time and no doubt benefit from the great knowlege base.

 Welcome johncar, nice looking rig!

Good group here and some very knowledgeable boatees and builders too. Neatest forum I have ever found for mixing the techie stuff just as quickly as a new fishing technique or gadget.

I reckon welded plate alloy craft have been manufactured here (and in Canada) going back into the 1950's with most of the early efforts designed and built as either work boats or commercial fishing platforms. One of our elder builder forum members could probably give us a history lesson in the evolution of these boats.

Wow, such a nice welcome, thankyou to you all. Certainly nice to have the international input here and compare the way things are done around the globe and how environmental factors no doubt impact on designs and ideas.
I will get some pics up of my rig, but it is work in progress getting things the way i like it, being half the fun of course..
