Gentleman's Holiday

Cast our lines off at 6:00 AM and made our way out of Green Harbor with light winds and FAC conditions. Today’s trip was twofold. Wanted to run the boat after replacing the water pump and T-Stat, and put a few fish in the box. Made our 23 mile run North and arrived to find a fleet of boats. We set up to the SE of the fleet in search of our own fish. Picked a keeper here and there under the bait.

Moved deep to the East looking for some haddock.....found them Just before we were approached and asked to leave the area by the CG as they were going to be performing gunning exercises

Move off to the middle bank east finding a keeper cod here and there but we just couldn't seem to find that pile we were looking for

Fished the shoals and to the West. Found our pile of fish on the west side but all 19"-22" with a 20:1 ratio shorts to keepers so with conservation in mind we decided to make a move to the L's and picked a few more under bait.

Wind shifted and started gusting from the South against the tide. We reeled up our iron and headed for an interesting ride back to the barn.

Ended our day with half our limit of keepers, and a few bonus (big) haddock....

Didn't try bait as didn't want to contend with the doggies.....

Water was 46.1-47.9 surface temp

Jigs were 13 oz crippled herring, 16 oz. hammered diamond jigs, and 17.5 oz. Solvoken all with a pink/white teaser

My buddy get the award for the biggest Sculpin ever caught on the AT

Les Thank You for the hoodie.....kept me nice and warm

Great day OTW. Whales feeding, white sided porpoise everywhere, warm day……we'll get’em next time

Heard something on the radio about a guy in a canoe being capsized by a whale and drowning???

Heard about the pilot whales that capsized a kayak off ptown. One lost. Those pilot whales can get aggressive if they feel you are to close.
Great to get out again after a very long winter. I heard rumors of coolers full of pollack and cod on the north side of the bank this week. Also heard the haddock are just starting to come on to stellwegan. Going to try to get out Sunday, hope to see you out there, my radio will be on 16.

Those True Cod remind me of days gone by here on Puget Sound before the draggers were let in...DAMN! Can't even get Pollack. Rockfish have such a limited season and only one per day and then watch out for the one you can keep!!!...sure did like to catch Groundfish as they are good eating...no more! I got to get out there and do some fishing! THX for your report. Capt PJ
