Coxes Report

Post by AlloyToy »

Pushed off at 4:30 AM and slowly made our way through the salt pond. Our first destination was a 38 mile run to explore the warm water that pushed in to the Vineyard in hopes of finding a pelagic willing to swallow a spreader bar, feathers, or a cedar plug.

The ride out with the wind at our backs and the moon tide pulling was beautiful. The AlloyToy swiftly cut the 2-3 foot chop throwing the spray 15 to 20 feet to either side. Again, the addition of the spray chines I added make this alloy boat ride like it was built for the Northeast waters. Not a drop in the boat even a 22 knots, and the landing is no more "BANG"

We arrived at the "Claw" to find the the north wind had pushed the warm water further south than expected. We set out the spread and trolled Southwest along the 120 foot to 150 foot line. Worked the contour line, weed checks, to find nobody home in the 61 degree water.

We arrived on the SE corner of Coxes and met up with "Codzilla" a buddy who was bailing cod for his sports. We pulled the spread in and armed our selves with 9 oz jigs and pink teasers. A quick search and "wham" it was game on. For the next 3 hours we bailed our limit of keeper cod to 10 pounds with with many short double headers. We fished that spot which was an area about 30 yards making repeat drifts. Most of the time we were tight as soon as the jig hit bottom.

As a bonus we had a BIG winter flounder (black baack not in season) grab a jig off the bottom....that was cool
and a monster bluedog smoke a keeper size cod at the transom. He came at the fish with vengeance and my buddy fought him until he broke off about 10 min later. Pretty cool fighting a bluedog on cod gear

All in all a great day OTW!!
