Just wondering if anyone has pulled a 500lb + tuna threw the tuna door. Does it put the scuppers and engine under water. What do u guys think is the best way to bring one aboard is. What else do u need to be able to go out after oct first, Epirb life raft survival suits? Just curios.
Thx Bobby
Tuna threw tuna door. Pacific 23'?

Hey fatcow, how are ya? Never pulled one through myself but did ask a very accomplished comm how the hell do you get a giant in when you fish alone? He has a 35 Henriques I believe. He told me just tie a line through the mouth and gills, pull the head to the door, use a couple wraps on the rope(cleat) so it does not slide back, Power up and then back off fast. Wave will push tuna into cockpit, undo one wrap and take up slack, and re wrap(on cleat) so it doesn't slide back out. I live in Attleboro and have a Pacific 23 also. Damm things are tanks, send me a e-mail or pm with phone # and we can have a beer and talk boats. Mike

fatcow a 500# fish is around the weight of an outboard.....boat will be fine as they hand dual outboards on the arse end all the time
Getting a big fish through the door could be challenging as the Pacific has about a two foot wide landing across the stern....you may be able to do what Clambo said, or another option would be a a block and tackle or a come along off a point on the boat and hoist it on
We have brought 180# plus fish on my boat through the door....tow of us and it was a challenge. Handeling a fish twice that size could be tricky for sure and dangerous......

How about lashing the head in the door opening and let the tail drag, might act like a trim tab! I tell ya, if I got one like that I'd have to sit down before I brought her aboard. Just don't do like the "Old Man and the Sea" lash along side and sharks ate it! Hope you get one or two!

The Hannah G is a pic I found on line but I believe he's out of the south shore somewhere
Usually pjay for me/us the adrenalin kicks in as soon as we see color and that's when you really work hard to finish the work and get a gaff in the fish........then you can relax a bit, size up the fish and figure your next move. That's where making smart safe choices is important
Bit smaller but should get the blood pumpin for those addicted to the "tuna crack"

A "COME-A-LONG", or a few adrenaline filled buddies.

This one was only 350 in the round and was no problem coming through the door. Of course it helps when you son is big and strong and a former discus thrower
