Fluke Till You Puke

Fished the 3rd annual "Fluke Till You Puke 2012" with the youngest boy on Saturday.....

Loaded the the boat up Friday night with gear, bait and food  Up at "O dark thirty" (3:30am  ) and out the door with coffee and PB toast in hand.

After a lot of chatter at the captains meeting and nobody willing to share intel because of the estimated 584 angles and around 5K for the largest fluke we decided to start on the east side of Block Island where we fished the Sunday before.

Made our way out at 23 knots in the stiff chop. Arrived on scene (only boat on the East side) son made his first drop with a squid strip/spearing combo and bam!! comes tight with a sub legal fish. This continued for the next 2 hours...one after another "cookie cutter" fluke. Made numerous drifts, bite seemed to be a 50-55 feet and all the same size fish :banghead:

Bluefish moved in with the tide change :skillet: Decided instead of loosing rig after rig to the yellow eyed robbers to make a move to the west side where a buddy was fishing. Now the wind was honking east against the tide and the 3 plus footers were standing tall as we punched our way through the north rip

Arrived west, fast drift couldn't hold bottom with 6 oz lead....now I'm getting frustrated :skillet: :skillet: :skillet: Told my son reel in, shifted the sea anchor so we drifted broadside to the wind and we deployed a dead stick spread of four rods/rigs sporting 12 ounces of lead per rig. set up our drift and bang!! We were tight one after another with same cookie cutters :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: My son worked the rods like a pro watching each rod tip, setting hooks, netting fish, but we just couldn't buy ourselves a trophy......

Call came on VHF66 30 minutes to fish. Set up one last drift and hit a 3 1/2 pounder which may have put my son on the board in the junior category.......

Call came "lines out" we cleaned up the decks, secured our gear for the long ride home in very unfavorable conditions  Proud of how my son hung in there throughout the day in some very "sporty seas", and how he worked his tail off while having fun together, laughing, and sharing ideas on how next year we are going to take this tourney

Off to the BBQ for an afternoon of good music, cold beer, and burgers salads and dogs  Best Father's Day gift ever....a day OTW with my favorite fishing partner

(Saw some BIG Alloy heading to the island on our way in

Great report. Took my then 6 yr. old son to Seiku, Wa. last year. We hammered the pinks, coho and kings. He caught his first Chinook and has been begging me to go again this year. Nothing better than fishing with your own boys. Congrats!
