A season in rewind

#1

Post by spoiled one »

I was just going through some photos of our last boating season. With Whittier receiving over 40 feet of the white stuff last winter, it made for a late, cold spring. The espar didn't get much of a break until late June. We hit the water early in May for more ''troutless adventures''. :rotfl: Lots of snow and cold nights, but those tasty little bugs were still there.

Several feet of snow down to the beach.

I have never pulled a shrimp this small. Have you? My ring for scale.

We met up with this character over Memorial Day weekend and ended up rafting up with he and his family on more than one occasion. Did I mention that it was a cold spring? I am not sure how we managed without an espar.

We also spent a weekend or two rafted up with this forum member.

I purchased a couple of kayaks off craigslist last winter. The kids sure have enjoyed exploring the coves while we are at anchor. I am impressed how stable they are. I was certain one of us would go for a swim getting in or out. I can even fit my lanky frame in these 10 footers, although I don't have any photographic evidence. We spend more time hanging out on the hook than anything these days.

We burn a lot less fuel in "motor floater" than the big boat. It's all about the kids, right? :highfive:

My daughter gets a little unnerved when I deploy the RHIB. So I had her and mom jump in the kayaks to photograph the crane in action. I don't really notice it while I am up top, but she does list a bit to starboard.

We tend to "boater home" more than fish. Although, our kids are getting to the age where they have the patience to jig for a couple of hours at a time, they still prefer paddling around and our shore parties. What a playground!

We do fish a bit and tend to have a halibut line down while we are hanging on the hook. One decent fishing trip and our freezer has enough fish to last us a winter. I have heard about the oysters from Perry Island, but had not experienced them until this year. Troy and Melissa are doing a great job cleaning up the place. Man, we were missing out!

Very cool story Pete, I gotta say I am bit jealous of your "Backyard". Mine just has some trees & rocks, not much to look at.

Post #9, second picture, I would HATE to be near that snow if it let go of the hill :titanic:

I remember to "Good Old Days" of hanging out with the Famialy on the boat. I have some pictures of it somewere but they are on Poloroid :rotfl: :rotfl:

Keep the pictures coming "Spoiledone"

That snow has been there since the last ice age (glacier). It lets go all the time. It is called "calving". A big one can throw quite the wave.

The gals didn't fish much this season and the only one that showed a hook up I posted on post #7. Tristan hooked a pink. The only serious fishing we did this summer was when you guys came up.

I'm going to steal everyones cameras and set their size for them. There is only so much real estate on a web page to play with and we have been posting 1024 X 768 pictures tonight like a big dog , how big do you guys need them.
