Another Video Fishing Report

Post by IN2DEEP »

Not a lot going on around here.
Rockfish (bottom fish) season is closed in Jan. & Feb.
Water temps are down in the saltwater which slows down fishing unless it's for rockfish.
So, I had an urge to go freshwater fishing for Striped Bass
Not trying to impress anybody with the size of them but they taste good and with the proper size gear it's still fun!
Hadn't been to this lake in 1 1/2 years. Pyramid Lake, CA. (approx. 70 miles from my driveway)
Saw a few reports indicating that there's fish to be had there
Got a hold of some fresh Sardines for bait, invited a couple of guys from my fishing club to join me.
One was a striper virgin and the other never caught them on bait before (lures only)
Took a while for the bite to get going, then it was game on.
Striper virgin took a few bites to get the hang of hooking them and as the day went on, the stripers started biting more aggressively and the size increased somewhat.
Enjoy

Les,
Elevation is 25-2600'
They had the I-5 (Grapevine) closed the week before due to snow and ice.
Not always windy there. When there is high winds in the area, this lake doesn't seem to get too rough and dangerous such as Castaic Lake down the hill gets.

Pete, also a good place to take people prone to seasickness but still want to fish from a boat and best of all... able to get into some action

So how do those stripers compare to the rockfish we ate? Yellow eye rockfish is at the top of my list.

Very cool video Scott  What GoPro setting are you using? What video editing software are you using? Are you converting MP4 and to what format? What is the best format for YouTube?

Pete, there is only one fish that tastes better than PWS Yelloweye rockfish, in my opinion, is PWS Lingcod. Those striped bass are not bad but in my humble opinion salt water fish tastes better. Nothing better than catching a gaggle of fish with friends and family though.

Scott those Pyramid striped bass can get up to 40 lbs?????

Thanks for sharing.
