I shouldn't have used the word "submerge"; however, I do give'm a fresh water dunk a time or two after a day out on the salt.

NO DUNK. That's not in the hand book, either.

Maybe a "spritz -n- wipe".

Jus like blasting with a hose, you can send all the salt inside. And by doing so, you're wetting the drag, and washing the lube away.

Jus not a good practice. Like Car washes are "washes" not "dunk and dries".

Can ya tell I'm super anal about tackle? A newish reel maybe still okay. But over and over again isn't something I'd reccomend. When I used to fish Abu Garcia's I'd have to break them down to Parade rest every few months, and each time they would still be in need of service. IE: something sticking, junked up inside. They are like Timex watches, they will keep ticking. But ya have to treat them right. Like each reel, after much servicing you get to learn the "chinks" in their armor and things to look for. I do all my own reel service on about 38 reels and do them each winter and it takes me weeks.

Plus I'm anal about my rod guides too.....even though most of my light tackle Ugly Stiks are only $30 rods. But I can make a $30 rod last for years even while abused by 1000 people per year. They jus need some TLC every once inawhile.

But then again, I may not be the average Joe either.... :joecool:

Here's a rod guide cleaning video:

I'm a big Ugly Stick fan too. I especially like my US Tiger and Tiger Lite rods for vertical jigging sea bass and lings out on the Sunken Jetty. Most of mine are in the 15lb-30lb. and 6' tall. All my buddies use "high end" stuff, but I seem to hang with'em just fine.

My feelings exactly, love my tiger and tiger lites. I especially like the all SS guides on the tiger series, they can and do take a beating... I don't know why everyone puts the rod on the deck when boating a fish, it drives me crazy. I'm always telling them to use the rod holders. I use the tigers for trolling tube and worm with leadcore for stripers, the soft tip section is perfect for this application. Also have their new tiger lite vertical jigging rod which I am also very happy with. I recently bought my first ABU BCX for inshore bottom fishing, so far so good but have only used a few times.

My Tigers have aluminum guides (which I love), but I'm noticing that I'm not seeing them around anymore??? The 2012 models have the black plastic inserts. I still see the random Tiger w/ the aluminum guides but I think they are just "leftovers?" Does anybody else know?

They may look aluminum, but they aren't. I have several rods that have those same guides as you are talking about.
They're coated steel. If they're the same on my Charter Series rods.

The rod guides I'm cleaning (in the video) are a silver chrome coating, with inserts.

BTW,

BPS sells all the shakespeare rods made:

http://www.basspro.com/Shakespeare®-Ugl ... 12/-176329

when all else fails, I have to order from them too.

They do call me the "answer man" and when it comes to "deals", and 90% of all tackle known in the USA.

Jetty, these r the 1's I'm talk'n 'bout.

Ugly Stik Tiger rods are versatile rods that can be used from coast to coast. These rods are at home catching tuna in the Pacific as well as landing monster catfish down south. The famous Ugly Stik construction gives these rods an advantage for fighting trophy-sized fish.

• Graphite Fuji® reel seats with stainless steel cushioned hoods.
• Fuji® double-foot stainless steel guides with aluminum oxide inserts.
