Mooring anchor barge
Mooring anchor barge
26' x 12' x 3' custom mooring barge with
pair 115 Yamaha 4 strokes
DMV marine crane
custom hydraulic power pack 30 hp kohler w/ dual pump
Rotzler 1 ton deck winch
hydraulic pressure washer
2"pacer hydraulic washdown pump
The barge is used by a private yacht club to maintain 400 moorings up to 1000 lbs. Whole boat is 1/4" mostly 5086. The crane is bolted to a piece of 1" plate that is tied in to the boat with a lot of 3/8" x 6" frames.
The hydraulic system is a 30 hp Kolher air cooled engine. We coupled a dual pump set-up to it. One pump is just for the crane. ( 5.5 gpm @2900 psi.) The second pump powers the deck winch, pressure washer, and wash-down pump. We put the whole ting in a sound enclosure. Ran pretty quite.

Re: Mooring anchor barge
Great looking hydraulic enclosure, what do you use for sound proofing on the inside? I like the door seal you used to help lower the noise.

The sound proofing came from www.soundproofcow.com/. We also tried some "silent Running" on the deck under the unit . Its a brush-on type of vibration/sound deading material. Overall I was very happy about the noise level.

Re: Mooring anchor barge
Hi Bob, Looks great. Love it!!! When I need another barge you're the man for sure.
When I was designing my steel barge the naval engineer said my winch cable could not be more than 6" above the deck because the computer model showed an issue. You're boat is wider than mine but it looks like your main winch is mounted on that hydraulic arm. Is it?
I hope those decks can take 1,000 pounds per square foot! Those moorings arn't flat so the contact point is small.
Does one use that arm, pointed towards the bow, to winch the mooring free from the mud?
Do you have a water balast tank in the stern?
Was this for a yacht club in Greenwich CT......?
Love the boat and if you ever need any input just call me.

Re: Mooring anchor barge
There is a 2000lb planetary winch on deck in the stern. The idea was to use that to take up the chain and break the mooring free. The boom has a 1000 lb winch mounted on it. The boat is not designed to lift that weight over the side. I lifted a 1000lb anchor over the bow, wouldn't want to do much more.
There isn't any additional ballast in the stern. There is a 2" hydraulic washdown pump and a 3000 psi hydraulic driven pressure washer. Thee whole boat is 1/4" most of the framing is on 12" centers or less.
We delivered the boat to the American Yacht club in Rye NY.

A 2,000 pound winch to break the mooring free from the mud........ from the stern??? The motors are in the stern. Do you mean 20k pounds?
What's the conveyor in the bow cut out section for?

I just noticed the nice glass boat in Bob's shop!! He must be into bending pipe.
Re: Mooring anchor barge
That is a 20 year old Steigercraft, before they went to NON ALLOY floors. The floor was in bad shape and the NYS DEC wanted to "surplus it". My friend that works there had the skills but no where to do it. He gutted the boat and put down new plywood. We do a lot of work with Al Steiger so we sent the boat over to him to glass the deck. He laid all the scrap and drop pieces on the deck and rolled out the resin .A little gel coat and the state had their boat back foe cheap money. There never going to buy a boat from me, so get what you can get.

Ha, a great rig for salvaging Cypress logs. I had a contract in Louisiana to clear one bayou of logs and debris and this would have been the ticket for breaking the suction with the bottom. I saw some strange and often time scary equipment doing that work and a clean durable rig like this would have made life a lot more liveable. D
