Safeboat vs. Rock

Post by welderbob »

Not quite sure if the rock won?? I do know that if this was a NON ALLOY boat our local police would be swimming. This is a 31' Safeboat with twin 300 Verados. Since marine police only have two speed and this boat does around 50mph, you decide how fast they were going. It looks like the boat hit in the bow @ the forefoot and rode up and landed about 5' from the stern. Of course the rock then destroyed both lower units. The interesting thing about Safeboat is you really can get inside of one. Once there built, there is no practical way to do a repair and weld both side.

So for all the doubter of the strength of aluminum. The hull was not breached even with a hit like this. All we can do is fill in the "dent" to recreate a smooth planing surface.

And charge EXTRA for the conversion.

How does the transom look, no bends or cracked welds?

we added frames and a 1/2" plate to the transom about a year ago because of some cracking @ the lower motor bolts.
